My Thoughts on Goddess of Interstellar Gourmet Food
"Goddess of Interstellar Gourmet Food" is a completed sci-fi romance that dives into a futuristic world where cooking and livestreaming collide. While the premise is intriguing, my journey through the novel was a bit of a mixed bag.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the idea of a protagonist reviving Earth cuisine in a futuristic, interstellar setting. The concept of live-streaming cooking shows to a galaxy starved for authentic flavors felt fresh and exciting. There's a lot of potential in that setup, and I was eager to see how the author would develop it.
What Works Well
The side characters, particularly the robots, were a highlight for me. They seemed to have more personality than some of the human characters, which added a unique charm to the story. I also found the world-building around Seablue Star development potentially interesting, with some promise in exploring how the protagonist cultivates her planet. Also, the author makes it clear early on that she is not good at writing action scenes, which is a nice warning to the reader.
Areas of Concern
One of my main issues was the inconsistent characterization of the main character (MC). At times, she's portrayed as calm and collected, while other times she makes impulsive and questionable decisions. This made it difficult to connect with her fully.
The male lead (ML) also presented some problems for me. His initial actions, particularly his desire to "abduct" the MC, felt a bit off-putting and didn't sit well. I can see how some readers might find his behavior problematic.
The plot also suffered from some repetitive elements and unnecessary additions. The author seemed to throw in multiple transmigration backstories for the MC, which ultimately felt messy and detracted from the core story of food and livestreaming. The focus should have been on the live stream element of the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Several readers pointed out issues with the ending and the handling of the antagonist. Apparently, the final showdown felt anticlimactic and underwhelming, which is disappointing after investing time in the story. There was also mention of the MC and ML being lovers in past lives, a cliché that didn't resonate with everyone.
Final Verdict
"Goddess of Interstellar Gourmet Food" has an interesting premise with some genuinely enjoyable elements, like the robot side characters and the potential of the world-building. However, the inconsistent characterization, problematic male lead, and messy plot ultimately held it back. If you're looking for a lighthearted read focused on cooking and livestreaming, this might be worth a try, but be prepared for some frustrating moments along the way.
