My Thoughts on Daddy, Please Let Me Be Your Fan!
"Daddy, Please Let Me Be Your Fan!" is quite the mixed bag, and diving into it was definitely an experience. With its blend of idol competitions, gender-bending shenanigans, and a touch of the fantastical, it’s a novel that tries to do a lot, and whether it succeeds is really going to depend on your personal taste.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the premise. A protagonist who's seemingly a former savior of some kind, now navigating the world as a gender-bent idol alongside his daughter? It's certainly unique! The initial chapters definitely hooked me with the mystery surrounding the MC's past and the unusual parent-child dynamic.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in its characters. The author seems to have put a lot of effort into fleshing them out, giving them backstories and motivations that go beyond simple archetypes. The dynamic between the MC and his daughter, despite being a bit unconventional, is genuinely heartwarming and drives a lot of the emotional core of the story. The author also seems to have a genuine passion for the idol industry, which translates into well-written and engaging sequences involving dance and performance.
Areas of Concern
However, the novel isn’t without its flaws. The pacing can be a real issue, with some readers finding it excruciatingly slow. The introduction of numerous characters early on can feel overwhelming, and some backstories feel shoehorned in, disrupting the flow of the narrative. Additionally, the plot might feel a bit derivative to some, drawing inspiration from other popular works.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out potential parallels between characters in this novel and those in "Debut or Die" and "Blue Lock." There's also speculation about the identity of a particular character, Kirimi Miyuki, and her potential connection to the MC's past.
Final Verdict
"Daddy, Please Let Me Be Your Fan!" is a flawed but ultimately entertaining read. If you're willing to overlook its pacing issues and occasional reliance on familiar tropes, you might find yourself drawn into its unique blend of genres and the endearing relationship between the MC and his daughter. However, if you're looking for a tightly plotted, fast-paced story, this might not be the novel for you. I'd recommend going in with an open mind and a healthy dose of patience.
