My Thoughts on Beastly Fēi that Go Against the Heaven: Coerced by the Huáng Shū
This novel, Beastly Fēi that Go Against the Heaven: Coerced by the Huáng Shū, definitely took me on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. With a premise that screams adventure – a reincarnated assassin raised by wolves forced into royalty – I was eager to dive in. However, it seems the execution is a mixed bag, with some elements shining brighter than others.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked by the unique setup. The idea of a modern assassin reborn as a baby, left to be raised by wolves, felt fresh. The first few chapters definitely grabbed my attention, painting a picture of a cursed child destined for an unusual life. It's a compelling start that promises a different take on the transmigration trope, especially since the protagonist retains memories of her past life.
What Works Well
Many readers praised the female lead, Jing Yue, for her bold and daring personality. Her interactions with the male lead are apparently full of amusing bickering, which adds a layer of charm to their romance. I can see the appeal of a character who isn't afraid to stand up for herself and isn't bogged down by the usual tropes of the genre. The story seems to have a good sense of humor, with some finding it hilarious and full of lighthearted moments. The pacing is also mentioned as a strong point, with the story resolving scenarios quickly, preventing the plot from dragging.
Areas of Concern
However, there are some significant issues that I can't ignore. A recurring criticism revolves around the female lead's intelligence, or lack thereof. Several readers felt that her supposed assassin skills and modern-day wisdom were completely absent, making her seem naive and even… well, downright stupid. This disconnect between the premise and the character's actual behavior is definitely a red flag.
The male lead's actions also raised some eyebrows. Some readers felt that his initial attraction to the female lead was too sudden and that his forceful actions bordered on assault. This is a serious concern and something that would certainly detract from my enjoyment of the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviews touch on plot points, like the MC being cursed at birth and raised by wolves, the ML being sexually aggressive, and the MC's past life as an assassin.
Final Verdict
Overall, Beastly Fēi that Go Against the Heaven: Coerced by the Huáng Shū seems like a novel with a lot of potential that might not quite live up to its premise. While the unique setup and comedic elements are appealing, the inconsistencies in the main character's personality and the questionable dynamics between the leads give me pause. It might be worth a try if you're looking for a lighthearted, fast-paced read and are willing to overlook some flaws, but proceed with caution.
