My Thoughts on A Blessed Daughter
"A Blessed Daughter" is quite the ride, a blend of slice-of-life farming, family drama, and a touch of wish fulfillment. It's a long story, and after finishing the whole thing, I can definitely see why readers have such varied opinions. It has a bit of everything but doesn't fully commit, leaving some areas feeling underdeveloped.
First Impressions
The premise is intriguing: Wei Qingruo, our MC, transmigrates into a "switched at birth" novel. She finds herself in ancient China, with a family that clearly favors the daughter they raised, even though she's the real deal. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for conflict and the MC's struggle for acceptance, though it seems that the family issues are a constant source of frustration throughout the novel.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of the novel is the MC herself. Many readers praised her intelligence, level-headedness, and ability to stay calm in the face of adversity. I appreciated that she's not just passively waiting for things to happen; she's actively building businesses, helping the common people, and making a name for herself. Her focus on farming and making money is refreshing, and I enjoyed seeing her use her modern knowledge to improve the lives of those around her. The slow-burn romance with the ML is also satisfying for those who enjoy a more subtle approach to love.
Areas of Concern
While the MC's OP-ness is initially appealing, it can become a bit much. Her knowledge of everything from medicine to farming to bomb-making stretches believability, and the magical space she possesses feels underdeveloped and underutilized. I also found the family dynamics frustrating at times. While I can understand the family's initial preference for the adopted daughter, their continued mistreatment of the MC, even in the face of her good deeds, is grating. Some readers found that the MC's coldness toward her family detracted from their enjoyment. Also, the relationship between the MC and the ML takes a long time to develop, with the reveal of the ML's identity happening very late in the story.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers felt that the ending was rushed, with the romance and political plotlines being resolved too quickly. There were also concerns about the MC's sister and her role as a villain, with some feeling that she was more of a product of her environment than a truly malicious character.
Final Verdict
"A Blessed Daughter" is an enjoyable read, but it's not without its flaws. It's a good choice if you're looking for a long, slow-paced story with a strong female lead, a focus on slice-of-life elements, and a touch of wish fulfillment. However, be prepared for repetitive plotlines, frustrating family dynamics, and a romance that takes a very long time to blossom. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5.
