My Thoughts on Thirsty Skin
"Thirsty Skin" promised a light and charming shounen ai office romance with a touch of the supernatural, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a fluffy read, and I wasn't disappointed, even though I feel like the ending could have been a bit more fleshed out.
First Impressions
The premise immediately grabbed me. A calm, clever protagonist working alongside a handsome, cold love interest with hidden depths? Sign me up! The added layer of supernatural elements definitely piqued my interest, and I was eager to see how it all played out. The tags like "misunderstandings" and "office romance" suggested a potentially humorous and heartwarming story, and those expectations were mostly met.
What Works Well
The characters are definitely a strong point. I particularly enjoyed the protagonist's personality. He's described as charming and caring, which made him incredibly likable. I also appreciated the touches of humor sprinkled throughout the narrative. There was a scene where the MC, after having a few too many, starts philosophizing about his soul and body, much to the embarrassment of his friend, that I found genuinely funny. Moments like that kept the story from becoming too saccharine and gave it a unique flavor.
Areas of Concern
My main gripe is definitely the ending. It felt a bit rushed and lacked the depth I was hoping for. While I appreciate the resolution of the ML accepting himself and his illness, I felt like I was left wanting more. A little more context, a glimpse into their future together, would have significantly improved my overall impression. It's not a bad ending, per se, just a somewhat abrupt one that leaves you feeling like you're missing a piece of the puzzle.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, here's where I get specific about the ending (so skip this if you don't want spoilers!). The ending felt like a quick wrap-up. I understand the ML accepting himself, being open about his illness, and being willing to accept the MC's quirks. But, I was hoping for a more concrete resolution, like seeing them get married or at least a more detailed look into their shared future. It felt like the author stopped just short of providing a truly satisfying conclusion.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Thirsty Skin" is a delightful and easy read that I would recommend if you're looking for something lighthearted and charming. While the ending could have been stronger, the engaging characters and humorous moments make it a worthwhile experience. It's a solid 4 out of 5 stars from me.
