My Thoughts on The Slow Life I Always Wanted

The Slow Life I Always Wanted promised a cozy escape, and for the most part, it delivered. With its blend of fantasy, romance, and a dash of spice, it's a quick read that left me with a generally warm feeling.

First Impressions

Initially, I was drawn in by the "slow life" premise. Who doesn't dream of escaping to a simpler existence? The European-inspired setting and the promise of a cute protagonist hiding his true identity added to the appeal. I dove in expecting a fluffy, heartwarming story, and that's largely what I got.

What Works Well

The novel's greatest strength is its simplicity. It’s a short and sweet story that doesn't get bogged down in overly complex plots or drawn-out conflicts. The central romance is undeniably cute, with the male lead being quite handsome. I appreciated the lack of unnecessary misunderstandings, allowing the relationship to blossom naturally. There's also a surprising amount of ahem "spice" woven in, which definitely added an unexpected layer of enjoyment. The translation was also very easy to follow, which is always a huge plus. The ending, particularly the "final" chapter where Paradis reveals his inner thoughts, was a highlight for me. It provided a satisfying conclusion to their journey.

Areas of Concern

While I enjoyed the story, I do think there's room for improvement. The characters, while likable, could benefit from further development. I found myself wanting to know more about their personalities beyond their backstories. Some may also find the story a bit cliché, though I personally didn't mind it too much. However, the plot is very short which results in the plot having an interesting premise but lacking in the execution.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Okay, let's briefly touch on the twist. I will say that the ML's true identity and motivations do add a layer of intrigue, but I can see how some might find his personality shift a bit abrupt.

Final Verdict

Overall, The Slow Life I Always Wanted is a pleasant, quick read perfect for when you need a dose of fluff and romance. It’s not groundbreaking literature, but it doesn't aim to be. It's a heartwarming escape that delivers on its promise of a sweet and satisfying story. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something light, cute, and a little bit spicy to curl up with.
