My Thoughts on The Idol Group Pet Became a Final Boss!
This novel is a wild ride, and I'm here to tell you all about it. "The Idol Group Pet Became a Final Boss!" plunges you into a world of transmigration, celebrity life, and doting brothers, all wrapped up in a package that's both heartwarming and, at times, a bit perplexing. Overall I liked it, though with some reservations.
First Impressions
Initially, I was intrigued by the synopsis. The idea of a protagonist returning to a body messed up by another soul, after countless transmigration experiences, felt fresh. The first few chapters pulled me in with the promise of a unique take on the celebrity genre.
What Works Well
The core of this story lies in its characters. The protagonist, Xiang Yi, is undeniably a Mary Sue, armed with skills from her previous lives. However, what sets her apart is her calm demeanor and ability to heal those around her. Her relationships with her four overprotective brothers are genuinely heartwarming and hilarious. Their "sis-con" antics provide much of the comedic relief, and I found myself invested in their familial bonds. The male lead, a seemingly aloof film emperor, is also surprisingly engaging. His "green tea" tendencies and subtle pursuit of Xiang Yi add a layer of intrigue to their dynamic. The side characters are well-developed, each with their own distinct personalities and quirks. The cooking and foodie elements are also a major draw, making me crave Chinese food at every turn.
Areas of Concern
There are a few aspects of the novel that I found less appealing. The constant barrage of negativity from online commenters, while intended to create "face-slapping" moments, becomes repetitive and tiresome. I found myself wanting Xiang Yi to be more assertive in defending herself, rather than relying on others to do it for her. I also found myself wondering about the author's choice to include the use of pesticides in the story. It feels jarring and out of place, especially given the character's supposed interest in growing things.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may find the age gap between the leads a bit disturbing. Also, there's a plot twist involving the male lead being a god and the system being a contracted spirit.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "The Idol Group Pet Became a Final Boss!" is an enjoyable and healing read. If you're looking for a lighthearted story with a multi-talented protagonist, a cast of lovable characters, and plenty of comedic moments, this novel might be right up your alley. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and embrace the occasional absurdity. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
