My Thoughts on The Great Emperor of History, Revealed in a Livestream, Also Feels Uncomfortable Today
Okay, buckle up, because "The Great Emperor of History, Revealed in a Livestream, Also Feels Uncomfortable Today" is quite the ride. I went into this expecting something fairly standard, but I was pleasantly surprised by its unique premise and engaging storytelling.
First Impressions
The initial setup is fantastic: a neglected prince, considered the trash of the royal family, suddenly finds his future self being broadcast to the entire kingdom. The reactions of the nobles and royals as they witness his rise to power are pure gold. I was immediately hooked by the blend of historical drama and modern livestreaming elements. It's a clever twist that keeps you guessing and eager to see how the present will react to the future.
What Works Well
The world-building is intricate, and the author does an excellent job of weaving together various character arcs. Every character feels alive, with their own motivations and struggles. I particularly enjoyed the imperial drama, the political maneuvering, and the glimpses into the protagonist's past. The humor is also well-placed, providing levity amidst the more serious and angsty moments. I found myself laughing out loud at times, which is always a good sign. The pacing is well done, allowing for moments of intense action and quiet reflection. The blend of xianxia elements with historical fiction is also executed seamlessly.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the protagonist, Xiao Lunyuan, I did feel like I didn't get to know him as well as some of the other characters, at least not initially. He seems to have a lot of depth, but it takes a while for that to surface. I was expecting a cold exterior and expressive interior but that wasn't the case at all. That being said, I am only 90 chapters in and look forward to finding out more about him.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor reservations, "The Great Emperor of History, Revealed in a Livestream, Also Feels Uncomfortable Today" is a captivating and unique web novel. The premise is intriguing, the characters are well-developed, and the plot is full of twists and turns that kept me hooked. If you're looking for a story that blends historical drama, fantasy, and humor with a unique twist, then I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'm definitely adding this to my "must-read" list and eagerly awaiting future updates.
