My Thoughts on Old Fogey Goes Down The Mountain
Okay, let me tell you about "Old Fogey Goes Down The Mountain." I went into this novel expecting some laughs, and it definitely delivered! This story is a wild ride from start to finish, and while it's not perfect, it's undeniably entertaining.
First Impressions
From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the sheer absurdity of it all. The premise is fantastic: an ancient, powerful being suddenly thrust into modern society with absolutely no clue how anything works. The main character's naivete and lack of common sense are played for maximum comedic effect, and I found myself chuckling constantly at his antics.
What Works Well
The comedy is definitely the strongest point of this novel. The situations the MC finds himself in are hilarious, and his reactions are even better. I especially enjoyed how the author subverts typical cultivation novel tropes. Things that would normally be serious or dramatic are turned into comedic gold. Many readers have pointed out that the MC is extremely OP, which is true. But it's done in such a ridiculous way that it adds to the humor rather than detracting from the story. The supporting characters are also a highlight, especially the first disciple, whose outlandish ideas and persuasive skills are endlessly amusing. The dynamic between the MC and ML is also very cute, even if the romance is a bit subtle.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, there were a few things that held it back from being a perfect read. The plot can feel a bit repetitive at times, with the same formula playing out in each arc. Also, the romance, while cute, isn't very developed. I also felt that some of the mysteries surrounding the MC's past and his relationship with the ML were not fully explored, which was a bit disappointing.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may want to skip this section to avoid spoilers! Several reviewers mentioned that the MC's method of "exorcising" ghosts by eating them is a recurring gag. Also, the reveal of the first disciple's past as a demon lord is a fun twist.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Old Fogey Goes Down The Mountain" is a hilarious and entertaining read. If you're looking for a lighthearted story that doesn't take itself too seriously, this is definitely worth checking out. While it has some flaws, the comedy and unique characters more than make up for them. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars!
