My Thoughts on Not Familiar
"Not Familiar" is a college romance that completely charmed me. It's a sweet story that explores the relationship between two seemingly stoic characters, and I found myself quickly invested in their journey. It's a refreshing take on the genre, and I definitely recommend giving it a read.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the mystery surrounding Li Ting, the MC. The story unfolds, revealing his past and personality as the ML, Fang Huaining, also uncovers them. The story starts from Fang Huaining's perspective before shifting into Li Ting's perspective. This drew me in and made me root for the characters to slowly fall in love.
What Works Well
The relationship between Fang Huaining and Li Ting is a highlight. Many readers, including myself, found it to be one of the healthiest relationships they have read in a while. The dynamic is built on respect and understanding, with both characters offering silent support to each other in their own ways. I really appreciated how the author developed their relationship; it felt natural and unforced. The overall tone of the novel is light and fluffy, perfect for a relaxing read. I also liked that the drama was minimal. It's a slice-of-life story, so don't expect many plot twists.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the novel, I can see why some readers might find it less memorable. It's a very gentle story, and the lack of significant conflict may not appeal to everyone. I also noted that some found the romance a bit one-sided for a portion of the novel, with the ML doing most of the pursuing. I can understand that, but I think it's a subjective point, and I didn't personally mind it as the story progressed.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some reviewers mentioned plot points, such as Li Ting's past actions and the reason behind them. If you prefer to go in blind, I recommend skipping over comments that delve into those details.
Final Verdict
Overall, I found "Not Familiar" to be a delightful and heartwarming read. The characters are well-developed, the romance is sweet, and the writing is engaging. If you're looking for a campus romance with a touch of mystery and a healthy dose of fluff, I highly recommend giving this novel a try. I'd give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
