My Thoughts on Limitless Sword God
"Limitless Sword God" is a xuanhuan web novel that I decided to dive into after seeing it mentioned in several forums. With a reincarnation premise and a focus on cultivation, it seemed right up my alley. After reading a good chunk of it, here are my thoughts.
First Impressions
Initially, I found the setup intriguing. Our protagonist gets a second chance to redo his life after failing to save a loved one. He vows to gain power at any cost, which immediately sets the stage for a potentially darker, more morally grey story than your typical xianxia. I was definitely hooked by the promise of a determined MC and the mysteries surrounding his past.
What Works Well
What I appreciate most about "Limitless Sword God" is the MC's attitude. He's not overly arrogant or ridiculously humble, but rather adapts his behavior to the situation. This makes him feel more believable and less like a caricature. The story also shines when it comes to world-building; the imaginative setting and expansive world provide a great backdrop for the cultivation and action. I also found the side characters and their interactions with the MC to be refreshing.
Areas of Concern
However, I did find some aspects less appealing. The plot can feel generic at times, relying on familiar xianxia tropes. Also, there were a few inconsistencies that bothered me. For example, the MC acquires some powerful abilities and items along the way, but sometimes forgets to use them later on, which can feel like lazy writing.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may be put off by a particular event involving the MC and a fox girl. It's a morally ambiguous situation, and reactions to it seem to vary wildly. Some view it as a necessary evil for the MC's growth and survival, while others find it distasteful and poorly handled.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Limitless Sword God" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of the xuanhuan genre. It has its flaws, but the engaging MC, interesting world, and consistent updates make it a worthwhile time investment. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're looking for a web novel with a slightly darker edge and aren't easily put off by morally questionable decisions.
