My Thoughts on If The Moon Won’t Hold You
"If The Moon Won’t Hold You" promised a sweet and heartwarming story, and for the most part, it delivered. I went in expecting a fluffy romance, and while it had its moments, it also touched on some deeper themes of self-discovery and growth, which I appreciated.
First Impressions
Initially, I was a little hesitant due to the age gap between the main characters, especially since a good portion of the story takes place while the female lead is still in middle school. This dynamic could easily become problematic, but the author handled it delicately, focusing on the characters' evolving relationship over time. The beginning felt a bit melodramatic, but I found myself invested as the story progressed and the characters matured.
What Works Well
The strength of this novel lies in its portrayal of character growth. The female lead's journey from a somewhat insecure and naive girl to a confident woman pursuing her dreams was genuinely inspiring. I enjoyed seeing her overcome her "inferiority complex" and blossom into someone who could stand tall alongside the male lead. The romance, while slow-burn, felt natural and rewarding. The interactions between the couple were cute and believable, and I appreciated that the male lead wasn't the typical overbearing CEO type. He was supportive and respectful of her choices, which made their relationship all the more endearing. The author focused on the growth of the FL and her journey to finding herself.
Areas of Concern
The school life aspect was less prominent than I anticipated based on the genre tags. The scenes set in school felt sparse, and I wish there had been more focus on that period of their lives. Also, while the romance was sweet, the conflict felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped at times. Some found the male lead's actions in certain situations questionable, particularly a "grab-forced" incident.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers enjoyed the "face-slapping" moments involving the antagonist, Meng Peiyan, but felt her arc was resolved too quickly. There was also a desire for more elaboration on the female lead's relationship with her parents, particularly her mother.
Final Verdict
Overall, "If The Moon Won’t Hold You" is a pleasant and heartwarming read. While it has its flaws, the strong character development and sweet romance make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a lighthearted story with a focus on personal growth and a touch of fluff, this might be the novel for you. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
