My Thoughts on Great Merchant – Dao Ming

I've been diving into "Great Merchant – Dao Ming," and it's been quite the ride so far. With its blend of adventure, fantasy, and wuxia elements, it promises a unique experience. The tags like "child protagonist," "clever protagonist," and "reincarnation" definitely piqued my interest.

First Impressions

Initially, I found myself a bit disoriented. The early chapters felt like they were juggling multiple perspectives without fully establishing the narrative threads. It took me a little while to get my bearings and understand the overall direction of the story.

What Works Well

Once I settled in, I started to appreciate the refreshing take on the protagonist. Instead of the typical arrogant or self-serving main character, Dao Ming is portrayed as someone genuinely striving for righteousness and the betterment of the world around him. I particularly enjoyed how the story illustrates the tangible effects of his good deeds, showcasing how positive actions can ripple outwards and create meaningful change. This focus on karma and its consequences really resonated with me, adding a layer of depth beyond simple power progression. The concept of a young, clever protagonist actively trying to spread goodness is a welcome change of pace in the wuxia genre.

Areas of Concern

My biggest concern, and something I think could be improved, is the initial clarity of the narrative. It felt like I was dropped into the middle of several different stories simultaneously, and it took some effort to piece together the connections between the characters and events. This could potentially deter some readers early on, and I hope the author addresses this as the story progresses. A smoother introduction to the world and its characters would greatly enhance the reading experience.

Final Verdict

Despite some initial confusion, "Great Merchant – Dao Ming" presents a compelling story with a unique and righteous protagonist. The focus on karma and the ripple effects of positive actions is a refreshing change of pace. If the author can address the initial narrative clarity, this novel has the potential to be something truly special. I'm giving it a cautious thumbs-up, with the hope that the story will continue to develop and clarify its direction.
