My Thoughts on Boushoku no Shoujo wa Ue wo Matashitai ~ Shiitagareta Shoujo wa Tensei shi Seimei wo Kurau ~

First Impressions

Right off the bat, this title grabbed my attention. A girl reborn with a Gluttony skill and a serious appetite? Count me in! The premise is dark, hinting at a protagonist shaped by unimaginable cruelty, and the early chapters definitely deliver on that promise. We're thrown into a world where our MC's past dictates her every action, and that's a compelling starting point.

What Works Well

The MC is, without a doubt, the strongest aspect of this novel so far. She's not your typical overpowered isekai protagonist. She's broken, distrustful, and driven by a primal hunger. This makes her unpredictable and, dare I say, fascinating. I found myself genuinely invested in her survival and curious to see how her twisted worldview would evolve (or not). The concept of her Gluttony skill is also intriguing. The idea of absorbing lifeforce to grow stronger, coupled with the uncontrollable hunger that drives her, creates a unique and potentially devastating power dynamic.

Areas of Concern

While the MC's character and the core concept are strong, the execution has some stumbles. The pacing feels rushed at times, with major events happening one after another without enough breathing room. This can leave you feeling a bit disoriented and less invested in the emotional impact of those moments. I also felt that the writing could benefit from more detailed descriptions, especially when it comes to world-building and the nuances of the Gluttony skill. There's also a bit of repetition in the descriptions of her hunger, which can become tiresome after a while.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Okay, here's where I have to be careful. There's a moment where she eats the red dragon and then immediately meets Lust and encounters the dead dragon. These events, while exciting, happen in quick succession, leaving little time to process each one.

Final Verdict

Despite some pacing and descriptive shortcomings, Boushoku no Shoujo wa Ue wo Matashitai has a lot of potential. The dark premise, the unique MC, and the intriguing Gluttony skill make it a worthwhile read, especially if you're looking for something different in the isekai genre. I'm cautiously optimistic about where the story will go and plan to keep reading. I'd recommend giving it a shot, especially if you enjoy morally grey protagonists and unconventional power systems.

However, hunger and other hardships will continue on to obstruct her new life. With a cursed power called 【Gluttony】, today again, she keeps on going in order to sate her hunger.
