My Thoughts on Big Brother, Please Save Us!
First Impressions
"Big Brother, Please Save Us!" definitely throws you into the deep end. The synopsis alone hints at a dark ride, and the tags confirm it: apocalypse, horror, psychological, tragedy... yeah, buckle up. I went in expecting a blend of thrilling action and a healthy dose of yuri, and while I got both, the survival aspect definitely takes center stage, especially early on. If you're coming for instant romance, adjust your expectations.
What Works Well
The world-building is a major strength. The story is structured around arcs set in different "small worlds," each with its own unique challenges and objectives. This keeps things fresh and prevents the narrative from getting bogged down. I really appreciated the pacing; the author does a good job of hooking you without dragging things out unnecessarily.
The protagonist, Bai Xiao (nicknamed "Big Brother"), is a compelling character. She's an OP badass, but she's not ridiculously overpowered. She's pragmatic, willing to make tough decisions for the sake of survival, and doesn't suffer from the typical "savior complex" that plagues so many MCs in this genre. This grounded realism made her actions feel believable and impactful. I also really enjoyed the female lead. She's described as a strong, flirty and tsundere character who complements the MC well, and their dynamic is engaging.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall experience, there were a few things that held it back from being a perfect read. I found myself questioning some of the protagonist's choices at times, feeling like she should have been more aware given her past experiences. Also, the later part of the story felt a bit rushed, and some plot points could have been explored in more detail.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers might find the intense gore, torture, and cannibalism difficult to stomach. Be aware that this novel doesn't shy away from depicting horrific events. The ending might also feel a bit abrupt for some, as it seems to be resolved quickly.
Final Verdict
Despite some minor flaws, "Big Brother, Please Save Us!" is a solid and engaging read for fans of horror-thrillers with a touch of yuri. The well-developed world, compelling characters, and fast-paced plot make it a worthwhile experience. Just be prepared for a dark and sometimes disturbing journey. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different in the web novel space.
