My Thoughts on Becoming a God by Playing the Prophet [Infinite]
I dove into "Becoming a God by Playing the Prophet [Infinite]" expecting a wild ride, and it definitely delivered… mostly. This novel blends comedy, horror, mystery, and supernatural elements into a unique "infinite flow" story, and I found myself genuinely entertained for a good portion of it.
First Impressions
The premise is immediately captivating: Xie Yian, an actor, gets pulled into dangerous supernatural scenarios where he has to use his acting skills to survive. The core mechanic of him earning points by convincing people with his performances is brilliant. I was hooked from the start, eager to see how he'd navigate these increasingly bizarre situations.
What Works Well
The MC, Xie Yian, is a standout. He's smart, resourceful, and his ability to scheme his way out of trouble is genuinely impressive. I enjoyed how the story plays on misunderstandings, with people constantly misinterpreting his actions, often to hilarious effect. The instances themselves are creative and well-designed, offering unique challenges that force Xie Yian to think on his feet. I appreciated the slow-burn romance, which felt organic and didn't overshadow the main plot. The side characters also contribute nicely to the plot.
Areas of Concern
While the first half of the novel kept me glued to the screen, I did find the plot became increasingly convoluted as the story progressed. The introduction of more and more supernatural elements—qi, time travel, parallel worlds, and so on—felt overwhelming. It became difficult to keep track of all the characters and plot threads, which unfortunately detracted from my overall enjoyment. I also felt the ending was a bit rushed, and I would have liked a more fleshed-out conclusion.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, so I need to address the romance a bit more directly. While I said the romance was slow-burn, I can see how some readers might be disappointed. The relationship between Xie Yian and his love interest is definitely understated, with the "Boundless Tree of Infinity" arc being the most prominent display of their connection. If you're expecting a romance-heavy novel, this might not be it.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Becoming a God by Playing the Prophet [Infinite]" is a creative and engaging novel with a compelling protagonist and unique premise. While the plot gets a bit too complex and the ending feels rushed, the strengths of the story outweigh its weaknesses. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy "infinite flow" stories with a focus on plot, mystery, and a clever, resourceful MC. Just be prepared for a wild ride with a lot of moving parts!
