My Thoughts on After Turning Into a Zombie, I Got Pampered by a Crazy Hot Villain
This title is a mouthful, but the novel itself? Quite the experience. "After Turning Into a Zombie, I Got Pampered by a Crazy Hot Villain" plunges you headfirst into a brutal apocalypse with a unique twist: a zombie protagonist and a male lead who's morally gray, to put it mildly. I went in expecting a fluffy romance with some zombie action, and while the romance is definitely there, it's layered with a healthy dose of grit, humor, and some surprisingly deep explorations of human nature.
First Impressions
Initially, I was hooked. The premise is intriguing, and the early chapters do a great job of establishing the harsh realities of this zombie-infested world. The story doesn't shy away from the gruesome aspects of being a zombie, which, while sometimes difficult to stomach, adds a layer of realism that I appreciated.
What Works Well
What really shines is the dynamic between the female lead (MC), now a zombie, and the male lead (ML). He's not your typical domineering CEO type. Instead, he's selfish, greedy, and endearingly unhinged. He whines, complains about overtime, and has no qualms about scamming or even killing to survive. It's refreshing to see a ML who isn't overpowered but has clear flaws and struggles. Their relationship develops slowly, which I loved. The ML initially sees the MC as a kid, given their age gap (8 years), which adds a layer of realism to the romance. The humor is also on point, and the story does a good job of portraying the complexities of relationships in a world gone mad. I also found myself surprisingly invested in the side characters. The author doesn't shy away from killing off characters, even those you grow to like, which adds to the sense of danger and unpredictability.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the first half, I can see why some readers had issues with the later plot developments. There's a major plot twist involving the author of the novel, which some find jarring and detracts from the realism of the story. This twist also seems to affect the ML's personality, making him less mischievous and more cautious, which diminishes his initial charm. I can understand why some readers felt that it ruined the dynamic between the leads.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
If you want to go into this novel completely blind, skip this section! The major spoiler involves the world being controlled by the original author of the novel, who actively manipulates events and characters. This revelation leads to changes in the ML's personality and a shift in the overall tone of the story.
Final Verdict
Overall, "After Turning Into a Zombie, I Got Pampered by a Crazy Hot Villain" is a unique and engaging read, especially if you enjoy dark humor, morally gray characters, and slow-burn romances set against a brutal apocalyptic backdrop. However, be prepared for a major plot twist that may or may not resonate with you. Despite its flaws, I found the first half of the novel to be highly entertaining, and I appreciated the author's willingness to explore complex themes and push the boundaries of the genre. I'd recommend giving it a try, but be aware that the story takes some unexpected turns.
