My Thoughts on After Rebirth, the True Eldest Daughter Starts Brewing Tea
This novel promised a delightful blend of revenge, romance, and ancient Chinese intrigue, and while it delivered on some fronts, it ultimately left me with a slightly bitter aftertaste. "After Rebirth, the True Eldest Daughter Starts Brewing Tea" follows our protagonist as she gets a second chance at life, armed with the knowledge of her past misfortunes and a burning desire to settle the score.
First Impressions
The initial premise is undeniably captivating. Switched at birth, mistreated, and ultimately murdered in her first life, our MC returns to her younger self with a clear understanding of who her enemies are. I was immediately drawn to the idea of a "green tea" protagonist, someone who uses charm and wit to navigate the treacherous social landscape and exact her revenge. The promise of a complex romance with a wheelchair-bound Crown Prince (at least, temporarily!) also piqued my interest.
What Works Well
The revenge plot is definitely a driving force, and I enjoyed watching the MC outsmart her adversaries. The characters, for the most part, are well-developed and engaging. I particularly liked the adoptive mother figure, who provides a much-needed source of support and warmth. The side characters, like Ayang, and even the Emperor and Concubine Rong, added depth and color to the story. The pacing is brisk, which kept me hooked, and the lack of overly long, drawn-out arcs focusing solely on appearance was a refreshing change. The romance, while not the strongest aspect, had its sweet moments, and I appreciated the slow-burn development between the MC and the male lead.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the ending is where things started to unravel. Many readers, myself included, found it abrupt and unsatisfying. Several plot threads were left dangling, and the fates of some characters were never resolved. The logic behind certain events also felt questionable, particularly the lenient punishment given to the MC's biological family. The male lead situation was also a bit skewed. While the relationship between the main characters was well-developed, the other male leads seemed to not have a shot at all, and were just written out.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Okay, here's where I get into some specific plot points that might ruin your reading experience if you haven't started the novel yet. So, the ending... it just stops. No wedding, no real resolution for the Emperor's internal conflicts, and a general lack of closure for several secondary characters. The Li family gets off surprisingly easy considering their deception, and the final boss battle feels anticlimactic.
Final Verdict
"After Rebirth, the True Eldest Daughter Starts Brewing Tea" is a decent read, especially if you're looking for a fast-paced revenge story with a touch of romance. However, be warned that the abrupt and somewhat incomplete ending may leave you feeling frustrated. If you go in with tempered expectations and are prepared to fill in some blanks yourself, you might find it an enjoyable, albeit flawed, experience. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
