My Thoughts on A Magical Girl Won’t Become Her Witch Sister’s Plaything
"A Magical Girl Won’t Become Her Witch Sister’s Plaything" – the title alone grabbed my attention! I dove in expecting some fluffy yuri and magical shenanigans, and what I found was a surprisingly engaging story with a unique premise. This novel balances slice-of-life sweetness with the looming threat of conflict between two sisters on opposite sides of a magical war.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely threw me for a loop. The translation felt a little rough around the edges at first, with some confusing name issues that made it hard to keep track of who was who. However, I pushed through, and I was glad I did! The story quickly found its footing, and I became invested in the characters and their complicated relationship.
What Works Well
The core concept of a siscon magical girl protecting her town while her reincarnated witch sister plots to steal magical powers is fantastic. The push and pull between their familial love and their opposing roles creates a delicious tension. I particularly enjoy how the author explores their individual struggles to maintain their secret identities. The world-building is solid, and the magic system, while not overly complex, is interesting enough to keep me engaged. The yuri undertones are definitely present, adding a layer of sweetness and anticipation to their interactions. I'm eager to see how their relationship develops as the story progresses.
Areas of Concern
While the translation improved significantly, those early chapters could definitely use another pass. The initial confusion might deter some readers, which is a shame because the story itself is quite good. I also hope the author continues to develop the supporting characters. While the focus on the sisters is understandable, fleshing out the world around them would add even more depth to the narrative.
Final Verdict
Despite a rocky start, "A Magical Girl Won’t Become Her Witch Sister’s Plaything" has won me over. The unique premise, compelling characters, and intriguing plot make it a worthwhile read for fans of yuri, magical girls, and fantasy. I'm excited to see where the story goes and how the sisters will ultimately resolve their conflict. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
