Description

You Yuji married into the Chen family by imperial decree, only to find her groom openly cavorting with a courtesan on their wedding day—an outrageously absurd situation. Everyone thought You Yuji would cry herself to sleep every night and live the life of a resentful wife. However, she surprised them all by enjoying her days leisurely, brewing tea, listening to music, and sipping wine in the snow. She even took pity on Chen Anzhi’s newly acquired concubine and looked after her. Gradually, this concubine clung to her, affectionately calling her “sister” and becoming increasingly close. They not only ate together but also slept and bathed together. However, once their clothes came off, You Yuji discovered an incredible secret. Initially, she had only intended to be kind to the poor concubine, but who would have thought that kindness would lead her to run away pregnant with the concubine! Chen Anzhi loved two women in his life. One was a sickly princess from another country, his unattainable white moonlight, whom he finally managed to bring into his household as a concubine. The other was his initially loathed wife, whom he later realized he had deeply fallen in love with. Fortunately, both women were by his side, and he was content. … But who could explain why his white moonlight was actually a man, and why this man had such a deep bond with his wife, now having two children together?! He hadn’t even had a chance to touch his wife!

The Wife Ran Away with the Master’s Concubine Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on *The Wife Ran Away with the Master’s Concubine* ### First Impressions Okay, the title alone grabbed me. *The Wife Ran Away with the Master's Concubine*? Sign me up! I went into this expecting some good old-fashioned drama, and I wasn't entirely disappointed. It’s a story set in ancient China with warring nations, political marriages, and a whole lot of scheming. Our female lead, You Yuji, is thrust into a terrible marriage, but she's no damsel in distress. Instead, she decides to make the best of a bad situation, which leads to some very interesting developments. ### What Works Well What I really enjoyed was the character of You Yuji. She's poised, intelligent, and incredibly strong. Even when her husband, Chen Anzhi, acts like a complete buffoon (and trust me, he does), she handles everything with grace. I also found the relationship between You Yuji and Si Que, the cross-dressing "concubine," to be the most compelling part of the story. Their connection is a slow burn, but it's genuinely touching and worth the wait. The author cleverly weaves together court intrigue, power plays, and romantic tension, making it a truly engaging read. The side characters are also richly written, adding depth to the overall narrative. Several readers have also praised the quality of translation, which is always a huge plus. ### Areas of Concern While I enjoyed the novel, I did find some aspects a bit lacking. The world-building isn't particularly detailed, so if you're looking for a deeply immersive historical experience, you might be disappointed. Also, while the story has a certain charm, some parts felt unrealistic and more fictional than practical. It's not a deal-breaker, but it did take me out of the story at times. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Okay, let's talk about Chen Anzhi. He is, without a doubt, one of the most frustrating characters I've ever encountered. He's self-absorbed, narcissistic, and just generally awful. But, honestly, seeing him get his comeuppance at the end was incredibly satisfying. Also, Si Que's unhinged nature and penchant for using coin tosses to determine people's fates is both terrifying and hilarious. ### Final Verdict Overall, I'd say *The Wife Ran Away with the Master's Concubine* is a solid read. It's not perfect, but the strong female lead, intriguing plot, and unique romance make it worth checking out. If you're a fan of historical dramas with a touch of absurdity and a whole lot of heart, you'll likely enjoy this one. I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 stars.
