The Yandere Came During the Night Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on The Yandere Came During the Night "The Yandere Came During the Night" is a novel that certainly left an impression. With its blend of historical romance, martial arts, and a dash of the supernatural, it's a story that tries to offer a unique experience. I went in expecting a dark, twisted tale based on the title, but what I found was something a little different, and perhaps a bit divisive. ### First Impressions Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a "fake siblings romance" with yandere elements. The idea of exploring the complexities of such a relationship in an ancient Chinese setting was intriguing. The early chapters did a good job of establishing the close bond between the main characters, Yu Xiang and Yu Pin Yan, but I couldn't help but feel slightly weirded out by how intimate their relationship was right from the start. ### What Works Well One of the strongest aspects of the novel, in my opinion, is the character of Yu Xiang. She's portrayed as witty, straightforward, and unapologetically herself. Despite her physical disability, she's far from helpless, using her intelligence and knowledge to navigate the challenges she faces. I found her interactions with others, especially her sharp comebacks and refusal to be underestimated, to be quite entertaining. The male lead, Yu Pin Yan, also has his charms. He's the typical cold and powerful type, but with a soft spot only for Yu Xiang. Their mutual possessiveness and devotion to each other is a central theme, and many readers seem to enjoy the intensity of their bond. The side characters are also well-developed, each with their own motivations and flaws. ### Areas of Concern While I enjoyed certain aspects of the story, there were a few things that bothered me. The "sibling" dynamic, even with the knowledge that they aren't blood-related, felt uncomfortable at times. The age gap between the characters, particularly in the early stages of their relationship, added to this unease. I also found some of the plot developments to be a bit too convenient, with Yu Xiang's "golden fingers" making her almost invincible. The antagonists, too, often came across as one-dimensional and easily defeated. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers might be put off by the fact that Yu Xiang eventually regains the ability to walk. While it's presented as a legitimate recovery, it does fall into the common trope of "curing" disabled characters. Also, be aware that the male lead's obsession with Yu Xiang can be quite intense, even to the point of being disturbing for some. ### Final Verdict Overall, "The Yandere Came During the Night" is a mixed bag. It has its strengths in its engaging characters and sweet romance, but it also suffers from some questionable plot choices and potentially problematic themes. If you're looking for a lighthearted and fluffy read with a unique premise, you might enjoy this novel. However, if you're sensitive to age gaps, sibling relationships, or overpowered protagonists, you might want to proceed with caution. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
