My Thoughts on You Make Money, I’ll Spend It: Stepmother’s Ultimate Pleasure in the Aristocratic Family
"You Make Money, I’ll Spend It" promised a fluffy, lighthearted read, and for the most part, it delivered. This novel centers around Sheng Mumu, a woman who transmigrates into the role of a rich CEO's contract wife and stepmother. Instead of scheming for the family fortune, she decides to enjoy her newfound wealth and live life on her own terms. It's a premise that hooked me in, and I was eager to see how it played out.
First Impressions
The initial chapters were genuinely fun. I enjoyed the dynamic between Sheng Mumu and her stepson, and the slow-burn romance with the male lead, Qin Mo, was quite charming. The story sets itself up as a slice-of-life, family-oriented tale with minimal drama, which is exactly what I was in the mood for. I found the female lead to be charismatic and smart, and the male lead was a refreshing take on the typical cold CEO.
What Works Well
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is the character development. Sheng Mumu's sincere and cheerful personality allows her to win over her new family, including her initially disapproving mother-in-law. Her relationship with her stepson is also a highlight, evolving from an awkward acquaintance to a genuine familial bond. I also appreciated that she wasn't portrayed as perfect. Her ambition to start her own business and become independent added depth to her character, making her more than just a pretty face spending money.
Areas of Concern
While the initial chapters were engaging, I did notice a dip in my enjoyment as the story progressed. The romance, although sweet, felt dragged out, and the plot became somewhat repetitive. I also found the sub-plot about the MC being a lost child of a rich family unnecessary and detracting from the original premise. While some readers enjoyed the lack of drama, I felt that it made the story too predictable and lacking in substantial conflict. I also feel that the title is misleading, as the story is not about a woman who spends money.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers may take issue with the fact that ML is not the stepson's bio father, but rather his uncle. This may be a concern to some readers.
Final Verdict
Overall, "You Make Money, I’ll Spend It" is a pleasant, albeit somewhat generic, read. It's perfect for those looking for a lighthearted, drama-free story with a focus on family and slow-burn romance. However, if you're seeking a complex plot with compelling conflicts, this might not be the novel for you. I would recommend it as a good pastime, but not necessarily a must-read.
