My Thoughts on Soudana, Tashika ni Kawaii Na
"Soudana, Tashika ni Kawaii Na" is a novel that I went into expecting a fluffy rom-com, and while it largely delivers on that front, it also throws in some unexpected twists that make it quite unique. The premise is definitely intriguing: a guy wakes up from a coma after his spirit spent twenty years adventuring in other worlds, only to find himself back in high school with a super cute gyaru crushing on him.
First Impressions
Initially, the concept hooked me. The idea of a protagonist with isekai experience trying to navigate normal high school life while dealing with PTSD and residual magical powers sounded like a recipe for fun. I was curious to see how the author would balance the lighthearted romance with the potentially darker elements of the MC's past.
What Works Well
The core strength of this novel lies in the interactions between the two main characters. The female lead's pure-heartedness and unwavering support for the MC are genuinely heartwarming. Many find the gradual development of their relationship incredibly sweet and grin-inducing. The author does a good job of portraying the MC's struggle to adjust to his new reality, and the FL's role in helping him cope is both touching and funny. The premise of an isekai'd old man in a young man's body is an interesting dynamic that sets the novel apart.
Areas of Concern
However, the MC's characterization seems to be a point of contention for some. A few readers find his lack of common sense and reliance on his powers in everyday situations to be repetitive and annoying. Some readers found the plot holes and the MC's denseness to be a major turn-off, making it difficult to invest in the story. The plot can also seem generic at times, despite the unique premise.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have pointed out inconsistencies and illogical plot points, such as the MC's handling of a cursed necklace and his obliviousness to the affections of other characters. These elements detract from the overall enjoyment for some, making the story feel contrived.
Final Verdict
Overall, "Soudana, Tashika ni Kawaii Na" is a novel with a lot of heart and charm. If you're looking for a light and fluffy romance with a unique twist, this might be right up your alley. However, be prepared for some potentially frustrating character quirks and plot inconsistencies. I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the mood for something sweet and easy to read, but keep in mind that it might not be for everyone. I'd give it a tentative recommendation of 3.8/5.
