My Thoughts on Restarting After Deleting My Account
I recently finished reading "Restarting After Deleting My Account," and it's a bit of a mixed bag for me. While it has a lot of charm and some genuinely enjoyable elements, there are a few nagging issues that kept it from being a truly outstanding read.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise – a protagonist transported into a game world after deleting his account. The blend of action, fantasy, romance, and slice-of-life seemed promising. I was hoping for a fun cultivation story with a charming lead, and for the most part, that's what I got.
What Works Well
The slice-of-life aspect is definitely a strong point. The MC's focus on making snacks and building relationships with everyone around him is endearing. I particularly enjoyed the senpai-kouhai dynamic and the gradual development of the romance with the ML. The relationship felt natural, and it was nice to see it unfold without being too rushed. The protagonist is likable, and his hidden abilities add an intriguing layer to his character. The author also does a good job of fleshing out the supporting characters and ensuring they're not just forgotten after their initial introduction.
Areas of Concern
However, one major issue looms large: the lack of explanation surrounding the MC's transmigration. The story never clarifies whether he's truly trapped in the game world or simply experiencing a highly immersive virtual reality. This ambiguity creates a disconnect, especially when considering the implications for his relationships and his overall sense of mortality. The ending, in particular, suffers from this lack of clarity. It leaves the reader wondering about the long-term viability of the MC and ML's relationship, especially if the MC were to ever "finish" the game and return to his original reality. The relative lack of depth given to the ML compared to other characters was also a bit disappointing.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Proceed with caution, spoilers ahead!
The fact that the ML retains his memories of the time "in the game" further complicates the issue. It raises questions about the nature of the world and the MC's connection to it, which unfortunately remain unanswered.
Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "Restarting After Deleting My Account" is still an enjoyable read. The charming protagonist, the slice-of-life elements, and the slow-burn romance make it a worthwhile experience. However, the unresolved questions surrounding the transmigration and the somewhat underdeveloped ML prevent it from reaching its full potential. I'd recommend it with the caveat that you should be prepared to accept a degree of ambiguity and unanswered questions.
