My Thoughts on NPC Survival Guide

Alright, let's dive into "NPC Survival Guide." After reading through the initial chapters, I found myself chuckling quite a bit. This story definitely has a unique charm that sets it apart from your typical fantasy fare. It leans heavily into the comedic aspects of being an NPC in a world where the "plot" is king, and honestly, it's pretty entertaining.

First Impressions

My initial impression was one of amusement. The premise itself is intriguing: what if the "bad guys" were just trying to fulfill their roles in a pre-determined story? The execution is surprisingly witty, and the novel doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a breath of fresh air. I was hooked from the start because of the fresh take on the genre.

What Works Well

The humor is definitely the strongest point. The villains' dedication to sticking to the script, even when it's hilariously disadvantageous, is pure gold. The idea that these characters are essentially acting out a play, complete with dramatic pauses and over-the-top pronouncements, really landed well for me. I found myself enjoying the antagonists more than I initially expected, and their commitment to the "plot" is surprisingly endearing. The world-building, while not the primary focus, is also solid enough to support the comedic elements. It's a classic fantasy setting, but the unique perspective makes it feel fresh.

Areas of Concern

While the humor is great, I can see how it might not be for everyone. If you're looking for a serious, gritty fantasy novel, this probably isn't it. The focus on comedy can sometimes overshadow the plot, and I wonder if the novelty of the premise will wear off as the story progresses. Also, some readers might find the "antihero" protagonist a bit too quirky or unconventional for their tastes. I personally didn't mind it, but it's worth noting.

Final Verdict

Overall, I'd say "NPC Survival Guide" is a fun and engaging read. It's not perfect, but its unique premise and comedic execution make it a worthwhile experience. If you're looking for a lighthearted fantasy novel with a twist, this might just be the story for you. I'm giving it a solid recommendation for its originality and humor.

Synopsis

Resident no. 233, a frustrated novel villain of the City of Sin had a hard life due to his fondness in acting like a protagonist in each parallel world he enters. The measly sin points he earned wasn’t even enough to fill his belly. Having enough of begging in the streets of the city where villains like him lived, he stood up with a determined face and promised to stick to his villainous roles to earn more sin points and live a decent life! But just as he was rebuilding himself, he met Lily, a one-of-a kind heroine who seeks revenge for the death of a protagonist killed in cold blood by Wei Batian, another villain. Lily mistakenly thought that 233 was also a righteous martial artist like her, so she came to him and offered a proposal. “Please Mister! You have to help me! As righteous martial artists, we have to find and kill Wei Batian!” This is f*cking embarrassing…
