My Thoughts on My Husband Is Too Earnest
"My Husband Is Too Earnest" promised a refreshing take on the arranged marriage trope, and for the most part, it delivered. I was intrigued by the premise of a pragmatic female lead navigating a marriage with a man still pining for his first love. After finishing the story, I can say it was a worthwhile, albeit slightly flawed, read.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the European ambience and the promise of character growth. The idea of a calm, collected female lead was definitely a selling point, as I'm always on the lookout for protagonists who aren't solely defined by romance. The early chapters set the stage well, introducing the dynamic between Claudia and her earnest, yet misguided, husband.
What Works Well
The strongest aspect of this novel is undoubtedly the female lead, Claudia. I found her pragmatic nature incredibly refreshing. She's not swept away by unrealistic expectations of love, and she approaches her situation with a level-headedness that's rare in this genre. Her focus on managing the fief and supporting her husband, even when he's being difficult, showcased a maturity that I greatly appreciated. Her best friend Franz was a great addition to the story and I found myself enjoying their interactions.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall story, I did find the male lead's character development somewhat lacking. While he does eventually come around, I felt his initial behavior was a bit too harsh, and the resolution felt a little rushed. It would have been nice to see more depth and a clearer understanding of his mistakes. I was hoping the story would be longer so the relationship between Claudia and her husband could have been more developed.

The male lead's transition from infatuation with his first love to falling for Claudia happens relatively quickly, and Claudia's acceptance of him feels a bit too easy, given his past behavior.
