My Thoughts on It Seems That Takane, the Current Girlfriend, Definitely Doesn’t Want to Lose to the Ex-girlfriend
This title is a mouthful, and after diving into the story, I have mixed feelings. It's a blend of classic rom-com tropes with a dash of something intriguing, but it doesn't always stick the landing.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely grabbed my attention. The setup, with the ex-girlfriend's perplexing behavior, felt like a genuine mystery. I was hooked, eager to understand her motivations and the reasons behind her seemingly contradictory actions. It had the potential to be a clever exploration of complicated feelings.
What Works Well
The writing itself is solid. I found the internal monologues of the MC to be well-written and translated. The premise of the "ex" creating a love triangle scenario is interesting. The dynamic between the MC and Takane, the current girlfriend, is genuinely cute, with her earnestness and determination to win his heart. Many will find the second girl to be wife material. The story definitely shines in its portrayal of Takane's character, making her a likable and relatable love interest.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, the pacing is a major issue. The story crawls along, with many chapters feeling like filler that doesn't contribute much to the overall plot. I found myself losing interest during these stretches, as the initial mystery faded into the background.
Then there's the ex-girlfriend's character arc, or lack thereof. Her actions often felt inconsistent and poorly explained. The reasons behind her breakup with the MC remain frustratingly vague. It felt like a missed opportunity to explore the complexities of her situation. Also, the MC and Takane keeping their relationship a secret felt like an unnecessary and contrived plot device. I couldn't find a logical reason for it.
Final Verdict
It Seems That Takane, the Current Girlfriend, Definitely Doesn’t Want to Lose to the Ex-girlfriend has potential, but its slow pace and underdeveloped plot points ultimately hold it back. While the writing is competent and the characters have their charms, the story fails to deliver on its initial promise. If you're looking for a lighthearted rom-com with a focus on character interactions, you might find something to enjoy here. However, if you're expecting a tightly plotted narrative with satisfying resolutions, you might be disappointed.
