Who it's for, and whether it holds up.
My Thoughts on I Was Reincarnated as an Incompetent Villain Prince, and When I Was in the Dark for an Oshi, the Hero Seems to Have Lost His Temper. Apparently, the Hero Is Also a Reincarnated Person~
Okay, that title is a mouthful, isn't it? I dove into this novel with a healthy dose of curiosity, intrigued by the isekai premise and the promise of a villain prince redemption arc. While it had its moments, I walked away with mixed feelings.
First Impressions
The initial chapters definitely grabbed my attention. The concept of a reincarnated soul inhabiting an "incompetent villain prince" felt fresh, and I was eager to see how the protagonist would navigate his new life. The oshi aspect also added a unique layer, hinting at some potentially hilarious situations.
What Works Well
The core concept of the story, the reincarnation into a villainous role, holds a lot of potential. I enjoyed seeing the protagonist slowly but surely try to defy his predetermined fate. The "oshi" element, while perhaps not fully explored, provided some fun comedic relief and a unique motivation for the main character. The idea of the Hero being a reincarnated individual as well definitely added an interesting twist.
Areas of Concern
Unfortunately, this novel stumbles quite a bit in its execution. The pacing feels incredibly rushed, leaving little room for character development or meaningful plot progression. I found myself wanting to connect more deeply with the characters, but the story just kept barreling forward. The romantic relationships, or lack thereof, were also a letdown. The "harem" tag feels misleading, as there's barely any romantic development, just a few hints sprinkled throughout. Major plot points sometimes felt underdeveloped, leaving me scratching my head and wishing for more context. The ending also felt abrupt, as if the story was cut short before it could reach a satisfying conclusion.
Final Verdict
"I Was Reincarnated as an Incompetent Villain Prince..." had the potential to be a really enjoyable read, but ultimately falls short due to its rushed pacing and underdeveloped plot points. It's not a terrible novel, and it might be worth a read if you're looking for something quick and lighthearted. However, if you're seeking a story with depth and intricate character development, you might want to look elsewhere. I wouldn't say I wasted my time reading it, but I also wouldn't necessarily recommend it unless you're specifically in the mood for a quick, undemanding isekai adventure.
