My Thoughts on I Really Don’t Notice

"I Really Don’t Notice" is quite the ride. Jumping into this novel, I was immediately struck by its commitment to its central theme: a protagonist blissfully unaware of the chaotic, supernatural world swirling around him. It's a premise ripe for comedy, and the initial chapters definitely delivered on that front.

First Impressions

My first impression was that this would be a lighthearted, cliché-ridden romp, and honestly, it mostly is. But there's a certain charm to how the author embraces the familiar tropes of the harem, school life, and supernatural genres, then uses the MC's obliviousness to subvert them. The translation quality is solid, which made for easy reading.

What Works Well

The humor is definitely a strong point. I found myself chuckling at the absurd situations that arise from the MC's density. It's not just random gags, either. The author cleverly uses his obliviousness as the core of the comedy, creating misunderstandings and scenarios that are genuinely funny. The interactions between the characters are also a highlight. Despite the MC's denseness, the female characters have their own distinct personalities and motivations, making them more than just cardboard cutouts vying for his attention.

Areas of Concern

While the humor is initially appealing, I can see how it might wear thin for some readers. The "MC doesn't notice" gag can become repetitive if not handled carefully. And while the explanation for his obliviousness is provided, it might not satisfy everyone. Some might find it a bit too simplistic or even frustrating. The later volumes lean into more serious themes, which might not appeal to those who came for pure comedy.

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Some readers have pointed out potential plot holes and unanswered questions, such as the future of the time traveler or the background of certain side characters. These loose ends, while minor, could leave some readers wanting more closure.

Final Verdict

Overall, I found "I Really Don’t Notice" to be an enjoyable and entertaining read. It's not groundbreaking literature, but it's a fun and engaging story that knows exactly what it is. If you're looking for a lighthearted comedy with a unique twist on the harem genre, this might be right up your alley. Just be prepared for a protagonist who truly lives up to the title. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Synopsis

Life isn’t dramatic. Takasugi Shinsaku once mentioned, “The mind to bring interest to an otherwise uninteresting world”, but if you’ll let me have my say, “An otherwise uninteresting world is also interesting”. The world is just right with this level of boredom. That is the conclusion to the results of my, Kagoshima Akira’s seventeen years of lived experience. It’s not like anything’s ever going to happen. I mean. Witches from other worlds, and cyber soldiers paying a visit from the future, and psychics fighting under the instruction of research institutions don’t exist, after all.
