My Thoughts on Endless Twilight
"Endless Twilight" is a web novel that I dove into with a mix of curiosity and trepidation. The psychological and slice-of-life tags, combined with the shounen ai and age-gap romance, created an intriguing blend that I couldn't resist exploring. I'm happy to report that it largely lived up to the hype.
First Impressions
Initially, I was drawn in by the premise of a relationship between an older businessman and a younger love interest. The "seme protagonist" tag also piqued my interest, as I appreciate stories that explore the complexities of power dynamics within relationships. The cover art was appealing, and the summary promised a story with depth beyond a simple romance.
What Works Well
The strength of "Endless Twilight" lies in its characters and their relationship dynamic. I really enjoyed the balance between the maturity of Ruan Bochen and the youthful energy of Mu Yinuo. The novel beautifully portrays Ruan Bochen's protective nature and his internal struggle to balance his desires with what's best for Eno. The author does a great job of showcasing Ruan Bochen's "yearning & trying to hold it back," which adds a layer of complexity to their interactions.
I also appreciated the novel's realism. The story doesn't shy away from depicting the challenges of earning a living and the realities of poverty. It highlights the importance of hard work and resourcefulness, adding a grounded element to the romance. The emotional depth of the story resonated with me, and I found myself invested in the characters' journey.
Areas of Concern
While I thoroughly enjoyed "Endless Twilight," it's not without its flaws. At times, the writing or plot style can feel a bit uneven.
Final Verdict
Despite its minor imperfections, "Endless Twilight" is a delightful read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys character-driven stories with a focus on emotional depth and realistic portrayals of relationships. The age-gap romance is handled with care, and the dynamic between Ruan Bochen and Mu Yinuo is both heartwarming and compelling. It's a little treasure that deserves more recognition.
