My Thoughts on Creating Anime In A Fantasy World
First Impressions
The premise of "Creating Anime In A Fantasy World" immediately grabbed my attention. The idea of a protagonist introducing anime and film to a medieval fantasy world is ripe with comedic and dramatic potential. I was excited to see how the author would explore the cultural clashes and emotional reactions of the natives, and to see if it could live up to its potential.
What Works Well
The core concept is undoubtedly the strongest element. Watching the reactions of the fantasy world's inhabitants to iconic anime scenes can be genuinely entertaining. The author manages to create some compelling moments as these characters grapple with new ideas and technologies. There are moments that are genuinely funny and thought-provoking.
Areas of Concern
However, the execution is where the novel stumbles. I found myself getting bogged down by excessive descriptions of movies, many of which felt obscure and irrelevant. This detracted from the main storyline and made the experience feel more like a movie review blog than a captivating fantasy novel.
The characters' arrogance also became a major annoyance. Their instant superiority whenever they saw something slightly outdated in the anime was jarring and unrealistic, breaking my immersion. I also noticed the plot felt forced at times, with the protagonist becoming a puppet for nobles and gods who wanted their problems solved through the power of anime. This diluted the MC's original goal of simply bringing entertainment to the world.
I also found the way the anime themselves were implemented to be strange. Rather than being animated, they are live-action films. What's worse, the actors are seemingly perfect matches for the anime characters, which feels like a missed opportunity for creative character development and a bit too convenient.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some of the later plot developments felt rushed and underdeveloped. Key moments and reactions were glossed over, with the story devolving into a summary of events rather than a fully realized narrative.
Final Verdict
"Creating Anime In A Fantasy World" has a brilliant concept that is unfortunately hampered by its execution. While the initial premise and some of the reactions are entertaining, the excessive movie descriptions, annoying character traits, and rushed plot developments ultimately detract from the overall experience. I can only give it a 3/5. While it has potential, it falls short of being a truly great novel.
