My Thoughts on Boundless
"Boundless" is a story that really surprised me. Going in, I wasn't sure what to expect from a shounen ai romance centered around an arranged marriage and a blind protagonist struggling with depression. What I found was a heartwarming and ultimately hopeful tale, even if it's not groundbreaking.
First Impressions
The premise itself is quite intriguing: a man "bought" into marriage with a suicidal, blind heir. It's a setup ripe for angst, but "Boundless" seems to take a different path. I was immediately drawn in by the potential for emotional growth and the exploration of a relationship built on more than just attraction.
What Works Well
I particularly appreciated the realism in the story. The male lead (ML) isn't magically cured of his blindness, which is a refreshing change from the usual tropes. His disability remains a part of him, and the story focuses on his journey of accepting it and finding a reason to live. The character development, even in a relatively short story, is well-executed. I found myself caring about both the ML and the male lead (MC) and rooting for their happiness. The fact that the love between them felt so pure and real also resonated with me. It's a story about healing and learning, with the MC learning new things and the ML recovering and finding a reason to live in a healthy way. It’s a comforting and heartening story.

While I enjoyed "Boundless," it's not without its flaws. The story can feel somewhat surface-level at times. I wished there was more depth to the characters and their relationship. It's a short, sweet read, but it might not leave a lasting impression on everyone. It's more of a warm sip of soup on a winter day than a complex, multi-course meal.
