My Thoughts on As I Know Anything About You, I’ll Be The One To Your Girlfriend, Aren’t I?
First Impressions
Okay, so, with a title like As I Know Anything About You, I’ll Be The One To Your Girlfriend, Aren’t I?, I went in expecting a lighthearted, maybe even silly, read. And while it definitely has its comedic moments, particularly from Kurenai's perspective as she navigates some… questionable decisions, I quickly realized there was a lot more depth simmering beneath the surface. It's a story about overcoming past trauma, the complexities of love, and the sacrifices we make for the people we care about.
What Works Well
The comedic elements are genuinely funny. Kurenai's self-deprecation and bashfulness are endearing, and her interactions with Suika, the childhood friend, provide some really enjoyable moments. The author does a great job of balancing the lightheartedness with heavier themes, making it a compelling read. I think the romance truly shines when Suika is involved, adding another layer of complexity to the relationships. The way the author weaves in flashbacks to explore the characters' pasts is also well-done, adding significant depth and context to their present actions.
Areas of Concern
While I enjoyed the overall journey, the ending left me feeling a little unsatisfied. It feels like the author went out of their way to specify that Kuuya and Suika weren't dating in the epilogue and that Kurenai hadn't given up. Considering how childhood friends rarely win, I was pleasantly surprised when the tide started turning in her favor.
⚠️ Spoiler Warning
I will be discussing the ending, so please proceed with caution if you haven't finished the novel.
It's a little disappointing to end on an open note, especially after Kurenai confesses her feelings, Kuuya overcomes his trauma, and they even share a kiss. It just feels like a natural conclusion to their growth and relationship. However, the epilogue ends with her confessing...
Final Verdict
Despite my minor gripes with the ending, As I Know Anything About You, I’ll Be The One To Your Girlfriend, Aren’t I? is a worthwhile read. The characters are well-developed, the plot is engaging, and the blend of comedy, drama, and romance is executed effectively. If you're looking for a story that will make you laugh, think, and feel, then I recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared for a bit of an emotional rollercoaster!
