Description

Chief Forensic Pathologist for the Police Department, Ji Chan, is transported to another dimension and wakes up as the shameless and insolent niece of the distinguished Duke Lu. Blessed with a visage as fair as a flower and a figure as light as a feather, the original Ji Chan is unfortunately ignorant beyond measure. She spends her days dreaming of marrying into wealth. Eventually, she becomes a pawn in her cousin’s scheme, and finds herself in bed with her future cousin-in-law. And then she kicks the bucket… On their wedding day, Si Qi offers Ji Chan two choices. First, she can take the title of the Si family’s Young Madam, but she won’t be allowed to bear his children. Second, they could divorce with him offering her a generous settlement of ten thousand taels of silver, henceforth each would live their own life. Ji Chan chooses the second. And so, she becomes a discarded wife. * Four years later, Si Qi, now Deputy Chief of the Supreme Court, is confronted with a perplexing case that torments his sleep for two relentless days and nights. Overwhelmed by a sense of duty, Ji Chan comes forward to lend a helping hand. From that point on, his haughty demeanor shatters. He finds himself regularly lurking outside Ji Chan’s doorstep, pleading through tear-streaked cheeks for her assistance with autopsies. Unashamedly, he vows to shoulder responsibility for Ji Chan and their child. One-line summary: The daily life of the chief female coroner raising her son and solving cases.

Wife, I Need a Coroner Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Wife, I Need a Coroner "Wife, I Need a Coroner" definitely grabbed my attention with its blend of historical fantasy, mystery, and romance. The premise of a modern-day coroner solving crimes in ancient China using forensic science? Intriguing! I jumped in hoping for a captivating story, and while I found aspects to enjoy, there were also a few things that gave me pause. ### First Impressions The initial chapters throw you right into the thick of things. The female lead (FL), Ji Chan, is a capable and independent woman, which I always appreciate. However, my first impression of the male lead (ML), Si Qi, wasn't great. The story begins with a forced marriage, a quick divorce, and a contract relinquishing his rights to any potential child. It felt cold and left me with a bit of a grudge, and I wasn't sure how the author would redeem him. ### What Works Well The strongest aspect of this novel is undoubtedly the crime-solving element. Ji Chan's forensic skills are fascinating, and I enjoyed seeing her unravel mysteries in a time period where such techniques were unheard of. Her character is a major draw. She's not just a coroner; she's practically a one-woman army, mastering everything from detective work to martial arts. I also found the FL's son, nicknamed Fatty/Plumpy, to be a delightful character. His intelligence and interactions with his mother added a heartwarming touch to the story. ### Areas of Concern Despite the engaging crime-solving, the romance felt a bit underdeveloped. While Si Qi does eventually try to make amends and win Ji Chan back, it felt somewhat like an afterthought to the main plot. I also felt the initial setup with the ML's callousness was a bit hard to swallow. The author tries to explain his actions, but it didn't entirely erase my initial negative impression. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers might be put off by the Emperor's constant presence and involvement in crime scenes. While it adds a unique element, it also feels a bit unrealistic. Additionally, the patriarchal views of the Si family and the Emperor regarding the child's custody can be frustrating for modern readers. ### Final Verdict Overall, "Wife, I Need a Coroner" is a unique read with a strong focus on mystery and crime-solving. If you're looking for a deep romance, this might not be the perfect fit. However, if you enjoy a capable female lead, intriguing forensic investigations in an ancient setting, and are willing to overlook some of the problematic elements, it's worth checking out. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
