Description

“Why does a beautiful girl who leaves other boys on read, only reply to me?” Yukine Saeki is a beautiful girl whom everyone recognizes, but she is always quiet and has a cool personality that is cold and dismissive of those around her; on the chatting app called Lime, she was known as the “Repeated Leave-On-Read Offender”— who keeps the person on read and ignores them. The boys in the class who want to impress Saeki, a cool and beautiful girl, start a daily competition on the chat app to see who can get a reply from Saeki first. In the midst of that, the protagonist, Kotoku Ōkami, is asked by his childhood friend and mischievous troublemaker, Tamari Michifuji, to send a message on lime to Saeki as a trial. Kotoku, who had no interest in Saeki, caved in to Tamari’s persistence and sent a lime to Saeki, but …… he never expected to actually receive a reply…….?

Why the Cool Beauty, Who Repeatedly Keeps on Read and Ignores, Only Replies to Me – The Beautiful and Aloof Girl Wants to Know the Lonely Me Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on *Why the Cool Beauty, Who Repeatedly Keeps on Read and Ignores, Only Replies to Me – The Beautiful and Aloof Girl Wants to Know the Lonely Me* This title is a mouthful, but the premise is intriguing: a popular, aloof girl only replies to a seemingly ordinary loner. I went in expecting a slow burn, maybe a gradual thawing of an ice queen. What I found was... something a bit different. ### First Impressions Initially, I was drawn to the idea of exploring why this cool beauty singled out our male lead. That central mystery felt like it had a lot of potential. The early chapters definitely leaned into the kuudere aspect of the female lead, Saeki, making her interactions with the MC feel unique and engaging. ### What Works Well The story shines when it plays with the tropes it introduces. Instead of the MC chasing after the unattainable girl, the script is flipped. Saeki is already interested, almost obsessed, with him from the start. This twist is refreshing, and the humor that arises from her lack of self-awareness is genuinely funny. I enjoyed the dialogues and the lighthearted feel of the story. Also, the side characters, like the twin sister and the student council president, add another layer of fun and potential romantic interests. ### Areas of Concern As the story progressed, I felt the initial premise started to lose focus. Saeki's character development, while intended to make her warmer and more approachable, felt a bit unnatural to me. The shift from a cool, collected beauty to a more impulsive and even "dumdum" persona felt rushed. It's as if the author abandoned the initial mystery of *why* she only replied to him, opting instead for a more straightforward "smitten girl chases oblivious guy" plot. Also, the ending felt hurried, leaving me with a sense of incompleteness. It felt like the author just wanted to be done with the story. ### Final Verdict *Why the Cool Beauty...* is a mixed bag. It has moments of genuine charm and humor, particularly in its subversion of typical romance tropes. However, the rushed pacing, somewhat inconsistent character development, and a feeling of lost potential hold it back. If you're looking for a light, fluffy read with an unusual twist on the "ice queen" trope, this might be worth a shot. Just don't expect a deep exploration of the initial intriguing premise. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars. It's entertaining enough, but it could have been so much more.
