Description

In this world, people are divided into three kinds. The chang ren are just ordinary people. At the top are the xie, born with pure Yang bodies and seen as the most powerful. Then there are the kao—people with Yin bodies who can give birth regardless of their gender. They are rare, which makes them highly sought after by noble families. When a xie and a kao come together, they bond for life and produce heir that is legacy of the their entire family. *** Sanxi grew up neglected by the Shen family. As the son of a low-ranked concubine and a chang ren, he was treated more like a servant than a son. His fifth sister, however, was a kao already promised to marry two xie sons from one of the capital’s most powerful clans—the Xu family. But when his sister mysteriously passes away, Sanxi is sent to the capital. There, he learns the truth about himself: he is also a kao. Now, he must take his sister’s place and become the shared kao wife of two illegitimate xie sons from the Xu family, along with their eldest legitimate son, a chang ren. Amidst this journey, echoes of a mystic past linger. The fortune teller, stroking his beard, looked at me with a knowing gaze and uttered, “Child, your destiny is unusual. In your past life, you owed three people. In this life, whether it’s good or bad, it’s all closely tied to these three people.” In a world where fates entwine like delicate threads, can Shen Jingting navigate the intricacies of love woven into the fates of three mysterious souls? Will they guide him toward the embrace of happiness, or will they entwine him in the shadows of sadness?

Three Joys Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Three Joys "Three Joys" is a novel that definitely surprised me. Going in, I expected a fairly straightforward smut-filled reverse harem, but what I found was a complex and emotionally charged story that kept me glued to the page, even when it was painful. It's not a light read by any means, but it's one that I think is ultimately rewarding for those who are prepared for the ride. ### First Impressions Initially, I was a bit taken aback by the dark themes and the prevalence of non-con elements. The beginning is rough, and it definitely requires a strong stomach. However, I appreciated that these elements weren't just gratuitous; they served a purpose in developing the plot and the characters' relationships. The author's writing style also stood out – it's quite flowery and uses a lot of idioms, which, while beautiful, sometimes required me to do a little research to fully understand. ### What Works Well One of the strongest aspects of "Three Joys" is the character development, particularly that of the MC, Sanxi, and the three male leads. Sanxi's journey is heartbreaking, and his resilience in the face of immense hardship is truly admirable. Each of the male leads has their own distinct personality and flaws, and watching them grow and change throughout the story was fascinating. I also appreciated the intricate plot, which tackles themes of family drama, societal expectations, and the complexities of love. The smut, while intense, is also surprisingly well-written and contributes to the overall narrative. The ending, though bittersweet, felt satisfying and provided a sense of closure. ### Areas of Concern The initial non-con elements may be a turnoff for some readers. Also, I think the author could have explored Sanxi's growth and experiences outside of his relationships in more detail. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers might be put off by the male leads' initial treatment of Sanxi, particularly Xu Qihe's actions. The forgiveness that Sanxi extends, especially toward Qihe, might feel rushed or unearned for some. Also, some readers may be disheartened with the ending, where Sanxi tolerates abuse for the sake of his mother. ### Final Verdict Overall, I would recommend "Three Joys" to readers who enjoy angsty, character-driven stories with complex relationships. It's not a perfect novel, but its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. Just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster and make sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in.
