Description

Soutome Tatsuma is a 31-year-old single office worker who enjoys his weekends and holidays off. Every day, he takes a fifteen-minute bus ride to the nearest station. On the bus, he meets a group of three students who seem like old friends: a handsome boy and two cute twin girls. Despite their friendly appearance, Tatsuma secretly wishes them ill, saying, “I hope your perfect lives blow up.” But then, he experiences a strange shock that turns out to be a “hero summoning.” However, he didn’t choose to be involved and doesn’t consider himself a hero. He discovers he has a special power: space magic, like having an item box. Because of this power, he’s directed to the adventurer’s guild for work. They even give him some money, like a hush payment, before sending him to the castle town. Tatsuma had hoped to find happiness by starting a new life in another world, aiming for a stable life and a happy family. But things didn’t turn out the way he expected…

The Healing Mage Who Wasn’t a Hero ~ Using Resurrection Spells That Even Assassins Fear ~ Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on The Healing Mage Who Wasn’t a Hero ~ Using Resurrection Spells That Even Assassins Fear ~ "The Healing Mage Who Wasn’t a Hero ~ Using Resurrection Spells That Even Assassins Fear ~" has a certain charm that initially pulled me in. The title itself is a mouthful, but it hints at a unique take on the isekai genre, focusing on healing rather than typical heroics. With elements of action, comedy, fantasy, and even a touch of romance, it seemed like a potentially enjoyable read. ### First Impressions The premise is definitely intriguing. A world on the brink of collapse, and a protagonist who tackles the symptoms rather than the disease itself – it's a refreshing angle. The idea of a mage who specializes in resurrection spells so potent that even assassins fear them? I was definitely curious to see how that played out. The promise of a slow-burn romance also piqued my interest. ### What Works Well The core concept of the story is strong. The protagonist's healing abilities, particularly his resurrection magic, offer unique opportunities for conflict and resolution. It’s fun to see how he navigates a world that desperately needs his skills, even if he's not actively trying to save it in a grand, sweeping gesture. I appreciated the focus on individual stories and the immediate impact of his healing on those around him. ### Areas of Concern While the initial concept is promising, I did find some aspects that held the story back. The pacing felt incredibly slow at times, with a significant portion dedicated to content that felt irrelevant to the overarching plot. The world-building, while present, felt somewhat underdeveloped. The scale of the world felt constrained, which made it harder to become fully invested in the stakes. It seemed like the countries didn't address the root cause of problems, which was a bit frustrating. ### Final Verdict "The Healing Mage Who Wasn’t a Hero" has a lot of potential, and the focus on healing rather than outright combat sets it apart. However, the slow pacing and underdeveloped world-building prevent it from reaching its full potential. If you're looking for a lighthearted fantasy with a unique magic system and aren't bothered by a slower plot progression, this might be worth checking out. Otherwise, proceed with caution.
