Description

Elite prosecutor Shen Wenjun, omega, was like an exquisite ice sculpture of a rare flower found only on chilling mountaintops. He was as decadent as the flesh of a swan. Countless alphas desired him and pursued him, only to suffer scathing rejections that made them retreat in defeat. Criminal police detective Xie Han, beta, was Shen Wenjun’s close friend. And he had secretly harbored feelings of love for Shen Wenjun for many, many years. Xie Han spent over a decade working up his courage, then bought a pair of rings. On Shen Wenjun’s thirtieth birthday, Xie Han planned on asking for his hand in marriage. It would be the risk of a lifetime. But then, Shen Wenjun turned to Xie Han with a sour expression and said, “What awful luck. I met an idiotic little brat, and it seems he’s actually my fated alpha.” Everything was ruined. “Darling, you marked my soul with love a long, long time ago.”

The Flesh of a Swan Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on The Flesh of a Swan "The Flesh of a Swan" promised a fresh take on the ABO genre, and I'm happy to say it largely delivered. With its focus on character-driven romance and a subversion of typical tropes, it's a quick and satisfying read that left me wanting more. ### First Impressions Going in, I was intrigued by the premise of an omega/beta pairing in a world saturated with alpha/omega dynamics. The initial chapters immediately grabbed my attention with a professional omega lawyer who is tired of Alphas chasing after him and a childhood friend who has been in love with him for years. ### What Works Well What I appreciated most was the story's emphasis on choice and compatibility over fated pairings. Shen Wenjun, the MC, is a strong, independent character who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to defy societal expectations. The author did a great job of portraying a mature character who prioritizes his career. I also loved how the story explores the theme of friends-to-lovers, highlighting the comfort and trust that can develop over time. Xie Han is a precious character. The slow burn of their relationship was well-written, and their dynamic felt natural and genuine. Plus, the "antagonist," Teng Rui, isn't truly villainous, but just a naive and immature young man. ### Areas of Concern While I enjoyed the story overall, I did feel that the romance between the MC and ML could have been more developed. I would have liked to see more of their interactions and a deeper exploration of their feelings for each other. Shen Wenjun could have treated him more nicely. I also wished the author wrote a better ending for Teng Rui. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers may find the resolution of the "fated alpha" plotline a bit abrupt. The MC's decision to reject his "fated" alpha happens relatively quickly, which might feel unsatisfying to some. ### Final Verdict Despite its brevity and a few minor shortcomings, "The Flesh of a Swan" is a worthwhile read, especially if you're looking for an ABO story that challenges conventions. Its focus on mature characters, realistic relationships, and subverted tropes makes it a refreshing addition to the genre. I'm giving it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I would definitely recommend it!
