Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (LN) Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (LN) "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" is a series I jumped into with high expectations, fueled by the popularity of the anime and manga. While I found enjoyment in certain aspects, I also encountered some recurring issues that kept me from fully embracing the light novel version. ### First Impressions The initial premise is undeniably charming: a salaryman reincarnated as a slime in a fantasy world! The early volumes hooked me with their blend of adventure, comedy, and the gradual development of Rimuru's unique abilities. I was eager to see how this seemingly weak creature would rise to power and build a nation. ### What Works Well The world-building is definitely a strong point. The author has crafted a vibrant and detailed world filled with diverse races, intriguing political landscapes, and a well-defined magic system. I appreciated the attention given to the side characters, their backstories, and their roles within Rimuru's growing nation. The light novel format allows for a deeper exploration of these characters compared to the anime or manga. The fight scenes, while sometimes repetitive, can be exciting and showcase the impressive range of Rimuru's skills. ### Areas of Concern However, I found myself increasingly frustrated with Rimuru's character. While his kind nature is initially endearing, it often veers into naivety and a frustrating willingness to forgive those who have wronged him and his people. This "pushover" attitude, as some readers described it, undermined his credibility as a leader and made it difficult to take him seriously. Another issue I encountered was the pacing. The story sometimes gets bogged down in lengthy meetings and overly detailed explanations, which can disrupt the flow and make the reading experience feel tedious. I also felt that the power scaling can be inconsistent, with characters becoming overpowered too quickly or without sufficient explanation. ### Final Verdict "Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (LN)" is a mixed bag. It offers an engaging world, interesting side characters, and satisfying power progression. However, the flaws in the main character, the inconsistent pacing, and the sometimes shallow world-building prevent it from reaching its full potential. It's an enjoyable read, but be prepared for moments of frustration and boredom along the way. I would give it a solid 3/5.
