Small Shop Owner in the 1960s Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Small Shop Owner in the 1960s I recently finished "Small Shop Owner in the 1960s," and it was quite the journey! It's a blend of slice-of-life, historical fiction, and a touch of fantasy with its Taobao-powered antique shop. Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable read, though it definitely has its quirks. ### First Impressions The initial chapters grabbed me with the MC's determination to escape her difficult family situation. Seeing her navigate the challenges of the 1960s, armed with modern knowledge and a magical online store, was fascinating. The early focus on building her business and establishing independence was definitely a strong point. ### What Works Well I appreciated the MC's character development and how she carved out a life for herself. The story shines in its depiction of the era, offering insights into the lives of ordinary people during that time. Many readers also praised the satisfying "face-slapping" moments where the MC overcomes her adversaries. I also found the romance to be well-developed, especially the maturity and manliness of the ML. The author did a good job of tying the writing into historical events. ### Areas of Concern While I enjoyed the story, I did find some aspects less appealing. The drama with extended family members sometimes felt repetitive and overused. I also felt that the MC could have utilized her Taobao abilities to a greater extent, which felt like a missed opportunity. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some plot elements might be sensitive for some readers. There's a subplot involving the MC's cousin and the ML's brother that involves questionable actions. While the story attempts to address the moral complexities, it might leave a bad taste in your mouth. Also, the couple never discuss the MC's magical store. ### Final Verdict Despite its flaws, "Small Shop Owner in the 1960s" is a worthwhile read if you enjoy slice-of-life stories with a strong female lead and a historical setting. While the pacing can be slow at times and the family drama a bit much, the MC's journey and the unique premise make it an engaging experience. Just be prepared for some morally gray areas and be ready to embrace the cultural context of the time period. Ultimately, I'd recommend it with the caveat that it's not a perfect novel, but it offers a unique and compelling story.
