Description

With a meager bank balance, no current regular roles, and primarily working part-time at a convenience store, Yoshioka Kanae is a struggling 27-year-old voice actress on the edge. While she played a leading role in a hit anime at the beginning of her career, she is now an unsuccessful, washed-up voice actress clinging to the glory of her past. Just as she’s about to give up, a job offer for a radio program comes from her agency. Enthusiastically heading to the recording location, she encounters the popular high school girl voice actress, Sakuma Kiri. Although they had worked together before, Kiri, who is now arrogant, introduces herself as if they’ve never met and further belittles Kanae: “I don’t bother remembering the names and faces of supporting roles.” “Just do your best not to drag me down, okay?” Irritated by Kiri’s arrogance, Kanae decides to endure it, as she has no other options if she lets this job slip away. As the first recording begins, the conversation doesn’t flow smoothly, Kiri’s reactions are indifferent, and the broadcast turns out to be boring. However, for Kanae, this job is like a last lifeline in her career as a voice actress. Despite dealing with an unpleasant partner and a cheeky young girl, she has no choice but to desperately strive to survive in the voice acting industry. She doesn’t want to go back to a life without regular roles. The story of Kanae’s voice acting career reversal begins with her radio show.

No Ordinary Talk Needed! ~A Voice Actor on the Edge, Restarting Life on the Radio!~ Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on No Ordinary Talk Needed! ~A Voice Actor on the Edge, Restarting Life on the Radio!~ "No Ordinary Talk Needed!" is a completed web novel that I found to be a mixed bag, but ultimately an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of yuri romances with a showbiz backdrop. The story follows a voice actress attempting to revitalize her career through a radio show, and the ensuing relationships, both professional and romantic, that blossom from it. ### First Impressions I went into this expecting a lighthearted slice-of-life story, and while there are definitely comedic elements, I quickly realized there's a significant amount of drama woven throughout. The age-gap relationship between the two female leads is a central theme, and it's handled with a mix of sensitivity and humor, from what I can tell. ### What Works Well The dynamic between the "has-been" older actress and the younger, up-and-coming one is genuinely compelling. The radio segments themselves are fun and offer a unique format within the narrative. The characters, for the most part, attempt to communicate and work through their problems, which prevents the drama from becoming overly drawn out. The author seems to explore the complexities of their relationship, acknowledging the potential issues that come with a significant age difference. The after-story content appears to be lighter on the drama, offering a satisfying conclusion to the main storyline. ### Areas of Concern The pervasive drama seems to be a sticking point for some readers. While the story doesn't shy away from conflict, it can feel relentless at times. I can see how constant drama without enough breathing room could become overwhelming, especially if you're looking for a more relaxed reading experience. It's also worth noting that some find the characters' choices frustrating, particularly when they seem to make deliberately poor decisions. ### Final Verdict Despite its flaws, "No Ordinary Talk Needed!" has a lot to offer, especially if you're a fan of character-driven stories with a dash of romance and a unique premise. The age-gap relationship is handled with nuance, and the radio show element adds a fun, distinctive flavor. However, be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions, as the drama is a constant presence throughout the story. I'd recommend reading this one in moderation, perhaps a few chapters at a time, to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the constant conflicts. Overall, if you're looking for something a bit different with compelling characters and aren't afraid of a little (or a lot) of drama, give this one a try.
