Love the Villain Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Love the Villain "Love the Villain" is a xianxia adventure with a yaoi romance that promised a fun, expansive world. As I dove in, I found a story with a lot of potential, but ultimately, it stumbled in its execution. It's a completed original novel, but the translation is ongoing, so keep that in mind as you read. ### First Impressions The initial chapters were engaging, drawing me in with the promise of a transmigration story where the protagonist, knowing the plot of the novel he's in, tries to change his fate. The early romance between the MC and the "villain" ML was sweet and the world-building had promise. But as the story progressed, cracks began to appear. ### What Works Well The core concept of a transmigration into a cultivation world is appealing, and the story does deliver on the adventure front. There's travel, acquiring a family (of sorts), raising pets, and even having a child. I appreciate the idea of the MC actively pursuing the ML, especially since the ML is initially cold and distant. The fast-paced nature of the story can also be a plus if you're looking for a quick, easy read. The translation is mostly well done. ### Areas of Concern One of the biggest issues I encountered was the repetitive nature of the plot. It often felt like a "dungeon crawler" video game, with the MC and ML moving from one area to another, encountering similar challenges and enemies. The villains, in particular, became tiresome. Many felt one-dimensional, driven by jealousy and greed, with little nuance or depth. Another concern is the portrayal of female characters. Too often, they are reduced to jealous, scheming antagonists, which felt both unrealistic and, frankly, a bit misogynistic. The characters themselves felt inconsistent, with sudden personality shifts that didn't always make sense. The world-building, while interesting, also suffered from plot holes and convenient solutions that strained credibility. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Several reviewers have pointed out plot elements that could be considered spoilers. For example, the transformation of previously good characters into villains, often abruptly and without sufficient motivation, was a recurring complaint. The constant killing of characters, even those who had shown kindness to the MC and ML, also left a bad taste for some readers. ### Final Verdict "Love the Villain" has moments of sweetness and adventure, but ultimately falls short of its potential. The repetitive plot, one-dimensional characters, and problematic portrayal of women make it a frustrating read. If you're looking for a brainless time killer with a focus on romance and don't mind overlooking some serious flaws, this might be for you. Otherwise, there are better xianxia novels out there. I'd give it a cautious 3/5 stars.
