Description

Gabrielle, a daughter of a Duke, was exiled from her country for a crime of bullying a certain Viscount’s daughter she didn’t commit. The reason for this was that all the people who condemned her were under the charm spell of the Viscount’s daughter. Gabrielle, who was the only one to notice this during the condemnation, decided to cancel out the charm spell as a parting gift when leaving the country. When she was gone and the charm was broken, the country was filled with a storm of regret. They have done something terrible. While they continued to suffer in guilt, Gabrielle was traveling normally.

I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well "I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well" had a premise that initially caught my eye: a twist on the classic exiled noble trope. However, after diving into the available chapters and considering the broader reader sentiment, I'm left with mixed feelings. While there's a spark of potential, the execution leaves much to be desired. ### First Impressions The initial setup, while intriguing, quickly reveals its flaws. The story centers around Elle, a powerful mage exiled after a charm spell affects her loved ones. The core issue, as I see it, is Elle's reaction to the situation. Instead of immediately rectifying the problem, she chooses exile, citing the inconvenience of dealing with apologies later. This decision immediately made it difficult for me to connect with her. ### What Works Well Honestly, finding positives was a challenge. Some readers appreciated the lightheartedness and the basic adventure formula: new place, problem, OP magic solution, repeat. If you're looking for a quick, undemanding read, this might scratch that itch. The concept of charm magic and its implications also held some promise, though I feel it wasn't explored to its full potential. ### Areas of Concern My biggest issue, mirroring the sentiments of many readers, is the main character's lack of emotional depth and, frankly, her unlikeability. Her decision to prioritize her own convenience over the well-being of those she supposedly cares about is jarring. I struggled to sympathize with her, especially when the story attempts to elicit sympathy later on. The repetitive nature of the plot also became tiresome. The "MC goes to new place, solves problem with magic" formula quickly loses its charm (pun intended). Furthermore, the male lead, Jeb, seems to be a point of contention. His persistent advances, despite being rebuffed, border on creepy. It's also annoying that he doesn't reveal who he is. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Several readers pointed out a specific plot point that further cemented their negative opinions: Elle's internal comparisons between her charmed father and a loving, albeit poor, family searching for their lost child. The perceived unfairness of this comparison, given Elle's ability to break the charm, highlights the disconnect between her actions and her supposed values. ### Final Verdict Ultimately, "I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well" falls short of its potential. While the premise offers a unique spin, the execution, particularly the characterization of the protagonist and the repetitive plot structure, makes it a difficult read to recommend. I give it a 2 out of 5 stars.
