Description

Mishima Kanji is just an ordinary high school student who likes games and giant robots. The new VRMMO “HAO” takes place in a sci-fi world and boasted overwhelming combat freedom – you could shoot guns, enhance your body and swing blades, use psychic abilities, or avoid combat entirely and profit massively from item production. Hearing he could produce and pilot giant robots to fight, Kanji was eager to dive in, but what awaited him was the sheer crappiness of HAO’s game design. After spending all his starting skill points, all he had to show for it was an immobile junk robot and two thick engineering textbooks in English he’d never read. Infuriated, Kanji uploaded the entire textbook data to forums, an act that triggered misunderstandings about him. Oblivious to HAO’s true nature, Kanji keeps unintentionally reinforcing others’ mistaken assumptions about him. But unconcerned by all that, this is a tale of his efforts purely for the sake of giant robots.

Hereafter Apollyon Online ~I’m Just Trying to Build Giant Robots and Play as a Production Class in This Ultra High Quality VRMMO, But Somehow I Keep Getting Misunderstood~ Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Hereafter Apollyon Online ~I’m Just Trying to Build Giant Robots and Play as a Production Class in This Ultra High Quality VRMMO, But Somehow I Keep Getting Misunderstood~ This title is quite a mouthful, isn't it? But does the story live up to the hype of a VRMMO where you can build giant robots? Well, after diving in, I've got some thoughts. ### First Impressions The premise is undeniably cool. A high-quality VR game intertwined with a futuristic setting, mechs, and a protagonist focused on production – it's a recipe that piqued my interest immediately. The initial chapters do a decent job of throwing you into the action, and I found myself intrigued by the world-building. ### What Works Well What I found most enjoyable was the proactive nature of the main character. He has clear goals, and he actively pursues them. The author avoids making him overpowered. The enemies aren't pushovers, and he has to work hard to protect those he cares about as the stakes rise. This created a compelling sense of progression. The mechs themselves are a definite highlight. The author takes a grounded approach, which provides a nice contrast to the enemy forces. ### Areas of Concern The biggest issue I had was the density of the protagonist. It can be frustrating to watch him bumble through situations, oblivious to obvious cues, especially romantic ones. This dense protagonist trait felt overdone at times. I also struggled with the overall plot coherence. The inclusion of elements like time travel, while potentially interesting, felt somewhat messy and could have been better integrated. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some readers have mentioned that the protagonist's density might have an in-world explanation that is hinted at. I can see how that could be a great rug-pull moment, but it's a gamble that could fall flat if not executed well. ### Final Verdict "Hereafter Apollyon Online" is a bit of a mixed bag. If you can overlook the dense protagonist and some plot inconsistencies, there's fun to be had. The action is engaging, the mechs are cool, and the protagonist's drive to achieve his goals keeps you invested. However, be prepared for a story that might leave you scratching your head at times. I'd say give it a try if you're a fan of the genres, but temper your expectations.
