Description

In the year 487 AD, a cruise ship encountered a storm at sea. One passenger went missing with their fate unknown. From that day forward, a mermaid appeared in those waters. Lance opened his eyes and found himself transformed into a white mermaid. He lay on his back, gazing up at the tumultuous sky through the blue water. His long tail was adorned with white, delicate fins, and his scales shimmered with the light of the sea. He released a bubble. On his first day as a mermaid, he wondered if anyone could tell him… how do fish even turn over? The Lord of Ocean awoke from the depths. He saw a beautiful pearl, radiating white light and gently falling into his embrace. “Hello, little fish.” he whispered.

Diary of Raising a Mermaid Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Diary of Raising a Mermaid "Diary of Raising a Mermaid" certainly swam its way into my attention, and after diving in, I have some thoughts! It's a novel with a unique premise and a blend of genres that mostly works, though it's not without its flaws. ### First Impressions The initial chapters definitely hooked me. The idea of a cute, slightly scheming protagonist raising a mermaid, particularly one with tentacled appendages, is undeniably intriguing. I was immediately drawn to the MC's personality; he's not just a passive caregiver but a character with his own motivations and a bit of a mischievous streak. ### What Works Well The world-building, with its touches of human experimentation and mythical creatures, creates a compelling backdrop. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the MC and ML. While some might find the ML falling in love quickly, I thought it was acceptable, given the circumstances. The side characters, like Little Orca and Tiny Octopus Friend, also added to the charm. I especially appreciated how the villains were written. They weren't just cardboard cutouts of evil; they had their own motivations and even moments of redemption, which felt refreshing. ### Areas of Concern While I enjoyed the overall story, the romance between the MC and ML felt a little underdeveloped. It was there, but I didn't find it as captivating as other aspects of the novel. Also, the ending felt a tad abrupt, leaving me wanting a bit more closure. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Okay, here comes a minor spoiler! One of the villains, Muran, the head scientist, actually has a bottom line and doesn't betray the MC after being saved. I found this to be a surprisingly nuanced touch. Also, the villain Michael has a whole arc where he marries a rich doctor and has to confront his past. His brother even sacrifices himself for Michael! ### Final Verdict Overall, "Diary of Raising a Mermaid" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're looking for something cute with a touch of darkness. While the romance could be stronger and the ending more fleshed out, the unique premise, engaging characters, and surprisingly well-developed villains make it a worthwhile dive. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Just be aware of the pacing issues towards the end.
