Description

As part of the imperial family, every move by Chu Yuan in this game of chess is made with apprehension, fearing that with a moment of inattentiveness, the whole match will be lost in a single move. Ascending to the throne at eighteen, not half a year passes before civil strife erupts in Yun Nan. Though the thoughts of the old guard at the imperial court are not exactly identical, they are all waiting to see how the new emperor will put an end to this. Unexpectedly, before this side could make a move, a few thousand miles away, the King of Xi Nan, Duan Bai Yue, had already personally commanded troops to attack in all directions; not half a year had passed when peace was restored. Sparse moonlight shines into the palace; Chu Yuan stamped the wax seal himself, and had a secret letter sent urgently to Yun Nan 800 miles away — this time, what must we(1) give in exchange? Brush marks passed through the back of the paper; it almost can be seen, when writing this line, how angry the young emperor was. Duan Bai Yue spread out a piece of paper unhurriedly, replying with only one word. You. Note (1): Chu Yuan is using the royal ‘we’ here. The Emperor’s Strategy is the fourth book in Yu Xiao Lan Shan’s Jianghu/Strategy series. Each book is standalone, but there are character cameos and mentions that don’t disrupt the flow of the main story of each book. 1st book: Everywhere in Jianghu is Wonderful2nd book: The Jianghu is Full of Local Tyrants3rd book: The Bandit’s Strategy4th book: The Emperor’s Strategy5th book: Return Together

Di Wang Gong Lue Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on Di Wang Gong Lue "Di Wang Gong Lue" (The Emperor's Strategy) has been quite the journey! I dove in expecting a wuxia adventure with a romantic subplot, and while the wuxia elements are present, I quickly realized the heart of this story is the beautiful and sometimes hilarious relationship between Emperor Chu Yuan and the Xi Nan King, Duan Bai Yue. ### First Impressions Initially, the POV-switching took a little getting used to, but I soon appreciated the deeper look it provided into the supporting cast. It made the world feel richer and the side characters more than just plot devices. I also watched the anime before reading, and I think it helped me visualize the world and characters. ### What Works Well The romance is definitely the star here. It's a slow burn, but incredibly rewarding. I loved seeing their relationship evolve organically, and the humor woven throughout kept me thoroughly entertained. The political aspects are present, but they are easy to follow, and I think that works in the novel's favor. It allows the focus to remain on character development and the central romance. Many readers praised the comedic scenes, and I have to agree; some moments had me laughing out loud. The side characters are also a highlight. From the loyal eunuch Sixi to the insect-obsessed Duan Yao, they add so much to the story's charm. And the translation is also very well done, making the reading experience smooth and enjoyable. ### Areas of Concern While I adored the relationship between Chu Yuan and Duan Bai Yue, I would have liked to see more of their backstory, especially the early days of their connection. Also, the pacing slows down towards the end, and that was a bit of a drag. ### Final Verdict Despite some minor pacing issues and a desire for more backstory, "Di Wang Gong Lue" is a delightful read. It's a romance novel with a wuxia backdrop, filled with humor, heartwarming moments, and engaging characters. If you're looking for a complex political thriller, this might not be for you. But if you want a sweet and funny love story set in ancient China, I highly recommend giving it a try.
