## My Thoughts on Assassin Farmer
"Assassin Farmer" promised a delightful blend of genres, and while it delivered on some fronts, it left me wanting more in others. It's a story I found myself enjoying in moments, but ultimately feeling a bit unfulfilled by its overall execution.
### First Impressions
The initial chapters hooked me with the unique premise: a transmigrated embroidery expert from the 1920s finding herself in an ancient world and falling for a stoic assassin. The slice-of-life elements were charming, and I appreciated the focus on building a simple life together. The early focus on their interactions and building a home was definitely a strong point.
### What Works Well
The romance between the main characters, for many, is the heart of the story. The male lead's gradual softening and devotion to the female lead is undeniably sweet, and I enjoyed watching him learn to cook and farm for her. The lack of love triangles and overly dramatic conflicts made for a relaxing read. It's the kind of story you can pick up when you want something light and fluffy. The world-building, while not the primary focus, was interesting enough to keep me engaged, and I liked the hints of deeper backstories for both leads.
### Areas of Concern
However, the very aspects that make it appealing also contribute to its weaknesses. The slice-of-life can become repetitive, with some chapters feeling like endless descriptions of meals and daily routines. I also felt that the female lead, while initially strong, loses her agency as the story progresses, becoming overly reliant on the male lead. The lack of significant challenges or conflicts can make the plot feel stagnant, and the later introduction of noble families and hidden identities felt somewhat forced and unnecessary.
### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Be aware that the following contains spoilers about plot developments and character backgrounds!
Several readers expressed disappointment with the later plot developments. The revelation of the female lead's royal lineage and the male lead's crown prince status felt rushed and lacked meaningful drama. Some felt that the story lost its charm once the characters moved to the town and encountered no further difficulties. The shift in focus towards the children and their future also felt underdeveloped and lacked the emotional impact it could have had. Also, the male lead's tendency to keep secrets from the female lead, while intended to protect her, ultimately undermines their relationship and contributes to her loss of agency.
### Final Verdict
"Assassin Farmer" is a decent read if you're looking for a fluffy, low-stakes romance with slice-of-life elements. However, if you crave a more complex plot, strong character development, and meaningful conflict, you might find yourself disappointed. I give it a 3.5 out of 5. It's a pleasant but ultimately forgettable story.
