God: “I’ll lie to this guy and tell him that I reincarnated him as the protagonist, when actually I just reincarnated him as cannon fodder (LOL).”
A high school boy who longed for the protagonists that appeared in fiction got hit by a truck and died. He was then called before God, who told him that he will be reincarnated inside a game based on a novel. Our boy was happy to be told that he was going to be reincarnated as Protagonist… However, he was actually reincarnated as mere cannon fodder inside utsuge!! (T/N: Utsuge translates as “melancholy/depressing game” and that’s basically it.)
And so, the guy was played by god’s scheme … Well, such a thing didn’t happen though. He firmly held onto his belief and the vision of his ideal which then changed the world.

## My Thoughts on A Story of a Cannon Fodder who Firmly Believed He was the Protagonist, Misunderstood the Actual Protagonist as the Cannon Fodder, and Ended up Victorious (WN)
### First Impressions
Okay, that title is a mouthful, right? I went into this novel expecting either a stroke of genius or a trainwreck. What I found was somewhere in between, a story with a genuinely unique premise that doesn't always stick the landing but is often entertaining. The core concept – an MC who's convinced he's the hero, despite being anything but – is instantly appealing. It's a setup ripe for comedy and, at times, surprisingly touching moments.
### What Works Well
The MC, Fay, is definitely the star. He's dense, oblivious, and often acts like a jerk, but his unwavering belief in his own protagonist status is strangely compelling. His "plot armor" isn't some innate power, but rather the sheer force of his delusion, which intimidates those around him. I found myself laughing at his antics and genuinely rooting for him, even when he was making the most questionable decisions. The supporting cast, while sometimes falling into familiar tropes, also have their charms, and I especially enjoyed seeing their reactions to Fay's bizarre behavior. The world-building is decent, and the story moves at a good pace, keeping me engaged.
### Areas of Concern
One issue I encountered was the inconsistent quality. Some arcs felt rushed, with significant plot developments crammed into single chapters. This made it hard to fully invest in the story and characters. Another point of concern is the repetitive nature of some plot points. The formula of Fay misunderstanding a situation, acting on his delusions, and somehow succeeding could become tiresome after a while. Also, while the harem aspect is present, its handling might not appeal to everyone.
### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning
Some readers have noted that the MC's character development veers into overpowered territory later on, which detracts from the initial charm of the story. There are also details regarding specific romantic interests and plot points that some might prefer to discover on their own.
### Final Verdict
Despite its flaws, "A Story of a Cannon Fodder…" is an enjoyable read, especially if you're a fan of misunderstanding comedies and unconventional protagonists. The core concept is fresh, and the humor is often spot-on. While the quality can fluctuate, and some aspects might not resonate with all readers, I found myself consistently entertained by Fay's antics. If you're looking for something different in the isekai genre, this might be worth checking out. I'd give it a solid 3.7/5 stars.
