A Monk’s Lovesickness Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on A Monk’s Lovesickness Okay, so I dove into "A Monk's Lovesickness" with a certain expectation, fueled by the intriguing premise of a romance with a monk. The initial setup definitely had me hooked, and I was eager to see how the story would play out. ### First Impressions The early chapters definitely piqued my interest, and I could see the similarities to the manga *5-ji Kara 9-ji Made*. I was hoping for a story with strong characters and a unique take on the romance genre. I was definitely curious to see where the story would take me and the main characters. ### What Works Well The novel definitely delivers on the 'devoted love interest' trope. The male lead is persistent and clearly head-over-heels for the female protagonist, which is a dynamic many readers find appealing. Also, the smut tag delivers on the expectation. ### Areas of Concern I think the biggest issue, for me, was the slightly misleading premise. I was anticipating a more "taboo" or unconventional romance, but the reality is that Japanese Buddhist monks *can* date and marry. This took some of the initial excitement out of the story. I also agree with some readers that the characters' prior relationships felt a bit unnecessary, and the monk's... shall we say, *preparedness* on the first date felt a little out of character. It just didn't quite fit the image I had in my head. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning Some plot elements did bother me a little. The female lead's initial reluctance to marry, despite knowing the monk's intentions, felt a bit frustrating. It seemed like she was stringing him along, and her eventual realization that she wasn't prepared to be a monk's wife felt like something she should have considered much earlier. ### Final Verdict Overall, "A Monk's Lovesickness" is a light and easy read if you're looking for a romance with a devoted love interest. However, if you're expecting a truly taboo relationship or complex character development, you might be a little disappointed. It's a decent story, but it didn't quite live up to my initial expectations. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 5 stars.
