A Mid-level (Middle-aged) Office Worker’s Laid-Back Industrial Revolution in Another World Review & Spoilers - Novel Translator

## My Thoughts on A Mid-level (Middle-aged) Office Worker’s Laid-Back Industrial Revolution in Another World This web novel, "A Mid-level (Middle-aged) Office Worker’s Laid-Back Industrial Revolution in Another World," certainly presents an interesting premise: a salaryman transported to a new world, using his modern knowledge to spark an industrial revolution. However, my experience with the story has been mixed, and while there are elements I appreciate, some significant flaws hold it back. ### First Impressions Initially, I was intrigued by the idea of a protagonist bringing modern business acumen to a fantasy setting. The potential for clever innovations and societal changes seemed ripe for exploration. However, that initial spark dimmed somewhat quickly as I delved deeper. ### What Works Well I can see the appeal in the core concept: the protagonist introducing economic and technological advancements. The novel attempts to fill a niche in the "other world" genre by focusing on improving the world's economics and technology, which is a refreshing change of pace. The author's attempt to create a different perspective on being an assistant in another world is commendable, and it's clear that the main idea isn't completely failing. ### Areas of Concern One of the biggest issues I encountered was the protagonist's seemingly instant acceptance and expertise in his new role. The MC acts as if he has been the earl's adviser for decades after only being there for a few days, teaching the earl's son and daughter lessons from his vast knowledge and wisdom of his original world, giving business advice one after another and making deals on behalf of the earl, all before trying to figure out left from right in the new world. This came across as somewhat arrogant and unrealistic. The ease with which everyone accepts his ideas and advice also feels a bit too convenient, lacking the natural resistance and skepticism one might expect. The POV also sometimes shifts erratically, jumping between first-person, third-person, and even other characters' perspectives without clear transitions. This resulted in a confusing and disjointed reading experience. Finally, the writing itself feels somewhat dry and lacks the immersive quality needed to truly draw the reader in. ### ⚠️ Spoiler Warning The following contains potential spoilers. One particular scene early on, where the protagonist encounters an unconscious person and immediately decides to smoke and then cover him in leaves, struck me as odd. It felt out of character and didn't quite mesh with the supposed seriousness of the situation. The protagonist also seems to brush off his memories of his previous life a little too easily. ### Final Verdict While the core concept of "A Mid-level (Middle-aged) Office Worker’s Laid-Back Industrial Revolution in Another World" has potential, the execution falls short. The protagonist's behavior, the inconsistent writing style, and the overly convenient plot points ultimately detract from the overall enjoyment.
